Anyone know of an okay freebie photo editing software?

All my old stuff I used to use from years & years ago is apparently long gone.

Anyone know of a freebie photo editing program that does okay? I don't need anything terribly powerful.

Thanks if you do!

I'm still using an ancient (Win 3.1) shareware version of a program called LView Pro. It's certainly no substitute for Photoshop, but you can play with gamma, color balance, do resizing, convert image file types, and use some different image filters to smooth or sharpen an image. It doesn't support some of the newer JPEG file types or animated GIFs but it still works on most images. It probably won't work on any OS newer than WinXP (just my guess). Let me know if you are interested and I'll see if I can send it to you.

Or, Google is your friend, I bet there are lots of more current image software out there. I think I have heard good things about IRFANVIEW but I have only used it very briefly...more info here:

I use paint a lot for fun stuff but it does not allow you to save high res jpeg's. It saves lower to keep the files small.

GIMP for Windows. http://www.gimp.org/

It'll do almost anything, and it's OPEN SOURCE!

Thank you all for your replies!

I usually just use paint for minor stuff, but finally (after several years) want to do a little more than what it's capable of.

I'll check out the recomendations, thanks again!

I actually did Google, but I don't particularly trust downloading stuff from companies I've never heard of. I prefer word of mouth with people that use the product when it comes to trusting downloads.

This IrfanView is apparently the most downloaded photo editor from cnet, so giving it, and gimp a shot to see how they do.

Huge fan of GIMP. All the photoshops I've done on this site and all my personal photos are edited in GIMP.
