One thing I learned long ago here in Illinois; the traffic signals are timed so you have to drive 10 over the limit and every light is green. If you try to drive at the posted limit you will be stopped at every signal.

I read long ago when they rebuilt one of the roads here that they did a traffic study and determined drivers were comfortable driving 40MPH. So they posted it at 35.

You are actually expected to exceed the speed limit. When the state wanted to raise the speed limit on I-55 to 70 from 65 one legislator actually said, "Why do that? Everybody already drives 70."

I sat in traffic court one morning and the first thing the judge says is, "Everyone with a speeding ticket of 10 over or less see the clerk and you will be dismissed."
Half the people in the court room got in line.

Now, I haven't driven in all 50 states, at last count I was up to 31, but when driving through Pennsylvania the limit was posted at 70 and almost everyone was driving 65-70.
Get to New York, and like Illinois, the limit is posted at 55 and almost everyone drives 70+.

Once you adjust to the fact that the state lies to you and expects you to cheat you adapt.

There are shitty drivers everywhere. I've been all over this country. I can't say one states drivers are worse or better than others.

Here is one example that could be funny.

I am in the work truck, towing a trailer with a skid steer on it. We are going down a road that is packed, so all that happens is the signal changes green, some vehicles go through, and then everyone else stops to wait for the next green.

So as I am creeping forward a car from behind me mounts the median and speeds to pass me. The woman, with two small children in the car, gets next to me, realizes there is no space in front of me to cut into, so skids to a stop because the median turns into the left turn lane.

What sort of person would endanger their children to gain a few car lengths?

Another good one. I leave the signal in the Camaro, reach the speed limit. The man who is behind me jumps into the left lane and cuts back in front of me, closer than I was comfortable with and I smacked the brakes. I toot the horn, he turns completely around to glare and flip me off, then slows to turn into the post office. Well, it so happened I was also going to the post office. I don't think of beating him to a pulp but I follow him into the driveway. He circles the lot and drives back out without ever stopping.

Now my brain whirls around and I calculate that he gained 40 feet to pass me and cut me off. At 60 MPH you are traveling 88 feet per second. We are going 35MPH. So he didn't even gain one second. I guess if he did that 60 times a day he might save an entire minute per 24 hours.

You really can't fix stupid.

When I was in Miami, I was in car with my brother who lives there. A light turned yellow so I stopped at a light after which, I was honked at. I was puzzled and my brother said the driver behind me was expecting me to beat that yellow light so the guy behind me can beat it too.
My brother said that was not an isolated incident.

They switched our signals some years ago so now the green for the cross traffic has a delay after the red comes on. So many people have figured that out they run the reds now.

One morning I am waiting to make a left. 5AM, almost no traffic. Signal on, one car coming at me. I could have whacked it and beat him, but I thought I would do the white thing. When the approaching car reached the intersection he started to turn left. No indicator. So I hit the gas to go straight. He looked like a deer in the headlights. I laughed so hard I had to pull into a parking lot because I couldn't see through the tears. I hope he had to go back home and change his pants. Where has common courtesy gone?

California is my home. I lived in a few other states and driven through several. It wasn't until I was driving on the Dan Ryan in metropolitan Chicago last year that I saw a sea of cars that looked as though they'd been through a demolition derby. Cars were using the emergency lane as a regular driving lane and then dart into traffic. As for Nevada, I've dodged my fair share of drunk driver's there especially around the casinos in both Reno and Vegas. To sum it up, California is just the last place to motor west.

A good majority of drivers I've come across over the past several years from there fail to yield; they refuse to move out of the left lane on the interstate even when there is absolutely no traffic in the right & they are going slower then the posted speed limit. A majority apparently couldn't find the turn signal if you pointed it out to them and they have a tendency to pull out right in front of you. Years ago, this wasn't the case or at least it wasn't as bad as it seems to be today. You know it's bad when you have relatives visit from there who admit they feel the same way you do.
i noticed it was as if people became super impatient over the last decade.
but most people i work with get to work like 5 min before work and just spew tails of how they had to drive crazy just to make it on time.
im always a hour early to work. i dont rush i dont have to hurry i can take my time and just sit back and watch the stupid unfold before me.
i get to just have fun vs stress about being on time.

im not sure whats going on. i have also noticed people are taking the stance this is my lane i dgaf if im slower then every one im staying in the far left lane........ its annoying!

then again im awake all night and work night shift anyways so my life on the road most times are i get to do what ever i want when i want nothing in my way. only time i really run in to a problem is 7am traffic after work even thats not so bad. most people work south while i go north

Left lane hogs are super annoying. What also irks me to no end is riding patiently in the left lane and someone behind you shoots up on the right and forces their way up in the front. We have a lot of 2 lane in each direction highways in PA and it sucks. I don't let them in as I'd go faster if I was ahead of them I'm sure, but I can't drive through people. Just wait your turn. We are all trying to get past these stupid trucks.

I don't think this is a problem with one state,a large number drive like asswholes no matter where you are,its the 21st century way, cops can't do their Job w/o a cell phone owner holding court,as for trucks being in the left lane, its usually because its a safer place to be instead of running over a soccer mom with a car full of kids while failing to merge onto the roadway talking on the phone drinking a latte oblivious to the other traffic

No turn signal.
Is this the cool thing to do? Really, it's very annoying cars jumping in and out of lanes. Another is posted speed limit is 65 and ppl are going 80+. I guess there is very little police presence and the locals are aware.

Is this really how drivers are? Might be the reason why car replacement is not an option for car insurance.

Like that all over. Even here in CT. signal lights are optional, everyone just cuts out in front of you, texting and talking and eating all the time. It has gotten much worse in the last 4 years or so.
