Front Horn Mounts for Vararam intake

This is a simple fix to a solution I couldn't figure out using Vararams 6" bolts. After seeing HeavyChevy's pictures I know understand how the bolts were used. But personally it doesn't look too sturdy.

I used a 5" vice, a #2 phillips screwdriver, a ballpeen hammer and a pair of vice grips.
I went to Home Depot and purchased a round plain steel rod from the hardware dept, 3/16" x36". This is a mild steel and will bend without having to heat it up.

Follow Vararams directions on installing the intake.

I started by inserting the end of the rod into the vice to a depth of 7/8". 1" will work though. Using the large ballpeen hammer bend the rod at a sharp 90 degree angle to the front of the vice.
Remove the rod from the vice, and mount the screwdriver in the vice with the tip up.
Wrapped the bent portion of the rod around the screwdriver until it's 180 degrees from where you started. There should be a gap large enough of the OEM bolt.
Insert the "U" shaped portion of the rod into the vice until the bitter end is flush with the top of the vice. Now bend the rod towards the front of the vice to a 90 degree angle using the ballpeen hammer.
At this point I cut the rod with a hacksaw to a length of 2 1/4".
Using the intake, and putting the rod in position on the radiator support, I saw where the rod started to leave the intake, and started to bend the rod down in small sections as to completely make contact with the horn. When finished this should be a complete 90 degree angle. There will be some tweaking you might have to do, but all-in-all you should get a tight fit.
You have to remember, to wiggle the radiator and make sure the intake is fully seated down on the supplied supports while checking, when bending the rod.
Make the second mount the same way but reverse the bend so the bitter end is towards the outside of the car.
I then sandblasted the rods, primed, and painted with engine paint.

I hope this helps!

The last picture is of the PCV line. I went to my local NAPA store and purchased a length of 1/2" o.d. plastic airbrake line. The inside diameter is 3/8 ". I also got a plastic 90 degree 3/8" barbed elbow for the intake. Make sure to route the hose away from the idler pulley. If you don't you will throw a code from bubbing a hole in the hose. Please don't ask me how I know.

I have a RevXtreme catchcan in route so I should be installing it soon.

If you use the rubber spacers that were supplied with the intake and put them in the proper places. These mounts do hold the radiator solidly in place. There is no movement at all, in the radiator or intake.

Great idea, the way the intake fits over the radiator, this should secure everything, should have Vararam use this idea, and compensate you for it.

Sorry, I'm late to the party but I just installed mine. I'm curious what is holding the radiator. The vararam set up has the anchors on the radiator while yours is just holding the vararam. What is securing the radiator?
