Brilliant Conversation - 135 vs Camaro SS
Edmunds.com said they'd be adding a Camaro to their Long Term test fleet soon. In the meantime, they posted the transcripts of a dialogue two editors had and much of it was whether they'd have the BMW 135 over the Camaro SS. I found it fascinating because their back and forth of beauty and performance vs size is exactly the struggle I'm having here. Good news is, my position has improved somewhat since yesterday, as you can see in the comment I posted. Enjoy!

lol, in Canadian, "how a-boat we do that"
My vote Camaro, of course. The BMW would be nice, but i want some torque to go with my ponies. (not that the M is really short on torque) And nothing like a car with a storied history to it, and a Bowtie on the front! And, when you pull up behind someone in a beamer, they think, "oh that prick with the small dick wants past me eh? I'll show him!" Pull up behind someone in a Camaro, and once they pick their jaw off the pavement, you'll be gone!

Well in all fairness BMW's twin turbo 3.0L makes its fair share of torque. The 135 is also a little heavier than its size would suggest. As far as pure speed the Camaro would win.

I scrolled down the thing, and true to form Mullet's and Gold Chains come up. I only wish these haters would include a couple other stereotypes, and then they'd actually get in trouble. So far it's just italians from Jersey ,and Southerner's.

that really was a good convo, and I did love the part about the sofa suspension, hahaha. Let me tell you the 135 is an awesome car.

There's not much to disrespect about that BMW, but the Camaro is perhaps the best engineered car of our day, as evidenced by the input from GM insiders here on Camaro5.

It was done in jest. Notice it came right on the heals of the joke about BMW paying them to pick to the 1 Series. Part of the point of this conversation was to satirize the stereotypes.

The 335i HT Vert would have been my choice 2 years ago. But I've been waiting for this Camaro for 20 years. I just didn't know what it would look like.

I like the Camaro better - mainly because I find the 135i very ugly. A few other reasons I'd pass:
- the closest BMW dealership is 50 miles away, so it would be a decently long drive to get it serviced. - I wouldn't want to own a BMW out of warranty - the Camaro is $5-6k cheaper so it fits my budget better - I like to tweak my cars and Camaros are usually easy to work on - plus there is a huge selection of cheap parts - I like the extra power of the Camaro |

That's my exact line of reasoning too, though I do think BMW's are pretty tunable. My uncle just bought a CPO 325 convertible. I can't wait to see what the upkeep bills look like. Fine cars, but a high price to pay.

The 135 seems a little small to me but I've thought about it a bit. I haven't bothered with a test drive myself but BMW's taking strides backwards in styling IMO and their current lineup is just so boring to look at. If the price was lower or performance higher maybe the styling could be overlooked but as is BMW is making themselves very easy to overlook IMO.
