If I were to move out of California?

California is falling apart despite my attempts to vote it back together.
But beyond that this small town is not so small anymore. I have considered moving to someplace where people are still friendly and your word and a hand shake are all you need (for the small things). For a living I do institutional architecture, specifically healthcare (Hospital, Medical Office Buildings, Out Patient Surgery centers etc.) So I would need to be fairly close to a larger city that has a good potential to do that type of work, or maybe a change in profession like in the field of IT or web design... Anyway I was just curious as to all of your thoughts on where a good place to move to would be?

I've considered moving to Reno for a few years to get out from under this cost of living. It's beautiful, surrounded by forest, close to Tahoe, and a couple hours from San Fran.

If you can stand all 4 seasons Michigan is still a very nice place. Job market not withstading, it's quite beautiful with many things to do and the people are awesome...........well except in the winter. I know I get crabby so everyone here is great except me in the winter.

That's the other reason too, the cost of living here is ridiculious!

I am currently about an hour from Tahoe (I love Tahoe!) this side of the CA border. Reno might not be too bad, but Nevada has the highest unemployment rate for architecture in the whole country. But I could work in a Casino as a IT prof. maybe. That's a decent suggestion, thanks, it would leave me close to my family here in CA too.

I love the changing of the seasons! I even have a 4x4 for the winter months. I've heard a lot of great things about Michigan too.
Thanks Number 3

I had thought of Oregon too, I have a bunch of friends who have recently moved there. Plus it's still West Coast. Thanks

Yeah Houston is big with Architecture. A little hot for me, I am more of a mild/cold climate guy. But thanks for the input. I do love the thunder storms in Texas though. Some of the coolest I have ever seen. I love a good thunder and lightning storm.

Hey Milk, thanks man, that's a long ways away. Chicago is actually really big when it comes to Architecture, lots of history and new stuff. I had considered Chicago as well.

True. I had considered Louisiana as well. I have a good friend who lives there.
Funny most of these suggestions are places I have considered heavily already. Thanks for the input everyone.

And the best part about living in texas is that it's smack dab in the middle of the country, so that no matter where camaro5fest is, you should be able to make it! LOL

If you were planning on doing A) growing corn and soybeans, B) raising cattle, C) raising alpacas, or D) raising laying hens, then Ohio is the place for you.
