V6-to-V8 Differential Swap
So, after two days and almost three nights of bungling around under my car with a friend in my driveway, I've finally completed conversion from my 3.27 Ratio V6 Automatic Open Differential to the 3.45 Ratio V8 Manual LSD.
I just barely finished throwing it all together; so, I've only driven it around gingerly to distribute the gear oil in the differential. It sounds like everything went well, and there's no strange creaks or groans coming from the IRS. There was a little bit of what I think is exhaust rattle; but, I think I know where that's coming from. I had a clamp a little close to the rear subframe. So, I'll install the tune to correct the speedo tonight, and do some hard launches tomorrow to see how she performs.

I'm interested in doing the same mod. What did you have to change? Diff., axles, driveshaft?
Thanks!!!

Curious about this. What is the approximate cost of this swap?

We have a complete rear drivetrain to do the swap in house waiting for the next TT build if someone wants it done.

Very impressive "driveway" job! Nice work.
I was happy completing subframe bush inserts, way to bring me down a notch! Off topic but big improvement with those light Nurburgring wheels? |

Interesting about the MAF sensor, does that also include the V6 community? I am thinking Vararam would have information about that?

So, I've been out driving in city traffic for a while today. I was able to give it a few good launches, and it feels very peppy. The butt dyno tells me there's a slight increase in realized torque with that new differential. The launches are also very smooth. My exhaust rattle went away after repositioning the clamp I had too close to the subframe.
On a side note, I used to have a strange crunching sound shifting from first to second. I believe there's a TSB regarding the problem that states there's a washer missing from the axleshaft near the wheel bearing hub. The SS axles I used had those washers; so, that annoying little crunch is gone now! @Spicoli: In order to do the swap, you need the differential, some SS axles, new wheel bearing hubs to fit the beefier axles, and possibly an SS driveshaft. The only difference between the SS driveshaft and the V6 driveshaft appears to be the coupler bolt pattern; so, in theory, if you had a V8 coupler to put on your V6 driveshaft, you'd be alright. Definitely check on that, though. @Ventmaster: The Nurburgring wheels were a great investment. It made the car feel lighter on its feet due to the 7+ lbs. reduction per wheel. Also, going to a 1-inch wider front wheel made the car feel a little less squirrely on uneven pavement. Your results may vary! @OOLIE: Let's see...I got a deal on a brand new 3.45 SS rear diff on Ebay for 600+95 shipping, new wheel bearing hubs are 140+ each, got a new driveshaft on Ebay for 290 and free shipping, i got the axles slightly used from a C5 member for 150 for the set (I think). Plus, I paid 600 for my Trifecta tune (13hp at WOT is nice) for the corrected speedo. Self-installed; so, a total of: $2020.00. It seems a little steep; but, I'd say it's worth it to get your LSD, some beefier drivetrain components and access to all of the SS aftermarket gears.

@Amenti Thanks for the response. I guess I'm on the search for a donor car.
