Question on Leftover discount
So I recently found a leftover new 2012 2ss Camaro with almost every option I would want. The sticker with the dealer installed accessories which include body color ground effects is 42,000 they are asking for 36000 with the leftover advantage discount. This seems a little high for me considering it is basically a 3 year old car at this point. Any idea what a good price would be for the car and/or a fair price for me to offer ? I was thinking of 29k but Im nt sure if Im off base. Any info or help would be appreciated.
Thanks |

Ask them what they would give you for a trade in value if you already owned it.

It's a grey area. Yes, it's technically a 2-3 year old car and as soon as you take ownership, the value will greatly depreciate. However, it's also still a new car with a full warranty.
Check KBB and NADA for that model and options. It will be worth more than the high end of both references. How cheap you can get it from the dealer, will depend on how badly they are wanting to get rid of it. |

Most of the stuff (without seeing the stickers) on the secondary sticker are usually high markup items. Probably the reason they had difficulty milking the price for nearly three years. Without all the glue-on add-ons, it was probably a $36,000 dollar car to begin with.
At this point, dealers are already discounting '14s to move them out for '15s. I would try to nail one of those for cheap money before plunking the cash down on a lot queen thats been sitting for so long |

Don't pay a penny more than you are comfortable with. There is a reason they still have that car on their lot, either they are unwilling to make a fair deal or the car has some history. I paid less than $32K for a new '13 2SS back in Feb., their $36K price is laughable.
Keep looking, see if you can find a '13 and you will get the mylink system too, good luck! |

Not trying to hijack this thread - but I've run into something similar with a 13 2SS\RS and would be interested in some opinions on it's price. It has a MSRP of $42000 and the dealer is asking $36,000 for it. It's been sitting on the lot since at least Oct. 2013 maybe even before that. What would be a good offer price? I'm hoping I can get 0% - 72mths financing and some more money off with a credit union discount. Any thoughts?

That's too high for me.
Don't forget the 15's will be on lots soon, what would they give you in trade for it if you were trading for a '15? Try to get it for as close to that number as you can. They need to come down at least $2K and then you subtract your incentives from that price. |

Yeah, used 2013 2ss with low miles would be in the upper 20s. Everyone has their own number that they are comfortable with. I can tell you that I have a used 2013 1le 2ss with nav, NPP and sunroof and 6300 miles. If I were to walk into the dealer and try to trade it for a z28 or new vette I would be lucky to get 31k for it. Msrp was 43k. I know that these cars haven't been titled and have little to no miles on them but they are still 2-3 years old now and they need to be deeply discounted. Otherwise , I would just buy a used low mileage 2012 or 2013, save a few grand and still have a factory warranty. The point is if you pay 36k for that car when you drive away it will be worth 28500.

Thanks for the opinions I am still trying to decide what to do. I've been checking out the 2014 1LE 2ss in red rock and it's a pretty sweet combo. Unfortunately it's around 39k. Its tempting but iddon't know if I want to spend that much cash.

Yes...you do... You know you want it. Spend it. You'll love it. And in 4 or so years, you won't care about the $$

I felt the same way so I leased it. I wasn't planning on leasing but when I learned of the high residual and the low negotiated year end sales price the numbers just worked. I leased a 2013 2ss 1le, nav, NPP, and sunroof. 36months, 12k miles per year, 3k down, $366 per month, which includes tax. If I am still in love with the car in year 3 then I can buy it for $27500, but knowing me and how I get bored easily with cars I will probably turn it in for a gen 6 or something else when the time comes.

I would skip the 12. I've tried to swing a deal for "lot leftovers" many times and never have come close. Most dealers want way too much considering the age of the cars. Some still ask sticker, which makes it clear why they are still there. 10 years ago you could steal leftovers off the lots on the cheap. Now there are floors to pricing which make it better to look for either a 14 or a low mile used 13.
