Whats really needed ? Gear change

I want to start ordering parts for doing gear change. Yukon 4.11 is my gear set of choice. I want to spend little as possible on the install parts. My car only has 15k miles on it so only want the bare minimum of what is actually needed.

If some one could give a quick parts list for a budget gear change it would be greatly appreciated

Not trying to be an a** but I’m not sure that gears is where I would cheap out at. Just my opinion and you know what opinions are.

Best/easiest/least expensive in the long run is to call a good speed shop or transmission shop and have it done right the first time.

The base AAM kit comes with just gears, bolts, and a crush sleeve. However there is a good chance you will jack up the pinion bearing when you try to take it off. You do need a pinion seal, but only need output seals if you mess one up. There are numerous threads in the drivetrain section. A bunch of guys have done them, but a bunch of guys have messed them up. If you you don't know what parts you need, you might be in over your head. Search is your friend.

If you are going with Yukon gears just ask Randy's what you need. Their prices are good as any and they know what they are talking about.

For starters thank you. Secondary is Randy's a person or company ?

Also is the pinion bearing I.D the same for aftermarket as oem , "new stock ss pinion bearing can be used?"

Randy's Ring and Pinion

There is also West Coast Gear

They both specialize in diff parts.

OEM bearings should fit aftermarket gears, but you can confirm that with the sellers.

For pinion seal, I would definitely go with an OEM pinion seal instead of a cheaper aftermarket one (not much of a price difference anyway). I know a few people that went with the aftermarket seal and it leaked right away.

Not sure what your definition of cheap is, but I just did the 3.91 conversion and Trutrac differential. Was right at $1210 from Quick Performance. I pulled the differential myself, had a local garage set the ring and pinion for $280 and then - retune was $258.

The gears are Motive which I didn’t really want due to subpar reviews. But it’s all they had. No issues so far. Faint whine between 42-48mph.
