Friday 13th almost got me!

Went to Crandall yesterday to see if I could better my ET with the updated shift points. And luck wasn't on my side to start out.
I got to the track early so I could get a good cool down. Swapped out my wheels. I noticed that I never saw the track guys doing much to the track as far as prep went. Thought maybe I just missed it while I was doing my wheel swap.

So feeling ready and prepared I took my car up to tech it in. No waiting in the staging lanes, so I'm pumped and anxiously awaiting my time. I do a good burnout and pull up to the line. Hit the gas like I'm leaving hard and immediately the tires light up!! Dammit! Wasted a run. Almost a 1.8 60ft and it spun fast and immediately went into 2nd gear. Ran a wasted 12.17 but almost 113.

I start to converse with some of the veteran 5.0 index dragsters there and they all are complaining about the track not hooking. The track guys then sprayed the track trying to improve the prep.

Cooled the car off again, tried a longer burnout, launched it hard again, and an identical spinning, making it short shift into 2nd gear. Another near 1.8 60ft! Now I'm starting to get frustrated. My car usually leaves very consistent. Low 1.6's are standard and 1.5x are good. This wasn't normal for my car!

I was about ready to just call it a night Bc without traction what was the use. Then I kept hearing Big Chief's words echoing in my head on the "STREET OUTLAWS" episode of Texas vs Oklahoma.
When he said "CHUCKIE BE DRIVIN!!"

So I summonzed my old street racing mindset. It was obvious that my car wasn't gonna launch with max effort style that i usually try. So I decided to roll my throttle in attempts to get 1 decent run in. I took about 30 min to cool off my car, then it was GO TIME!!
Pulled up to the line after a good burnout, waiting on the lights to drop, holding back the urge to nail it, I mush the peddle slowly and then get into it. It felt like it launched slow. Ran it down the track and turned off to get my slip and see what the outcome was.
11.92 and still managed a 1.61 60ft. A big smile came across my face. Then I told myself, "JEFFIE BE DRIVIN!" Oklahoma ain't the only place with Fast cars that have drivers that "BE DRIVIN!" Lol

That run Made the #1 UNOFFICIAL Spot in the Bolt on Only class with the DA conversion at a DA of 2450!

Even tho this is just an Unofficial List, It at least lets me feel good about where my car will be this winter on ET. So sorry Friday 13th, you tried to steal my glory, but just couldn't overpower me.

As I was driving home feeling great I just noticed my car number on my windshield. Never even paid attention to it until it made sense.

PERFECT ENDING TO MY NIGHT!

Thanks Terry. Now that I think about all the events that happened that day, it was a bright spot in a day full of other bad events. Listen to all this.

1)On my way to the track, I was going 5mph- dead stop for about 30min due to a bad wreck on I-75.
2) get to the track early so I decide to go eat at Taco Casa. Missed my turn around so I had to drive about 4-5 miles before the 1st turn around spot.
3) once I got to the track and started changing my wheels out, I had a DUMB AND DUMBER moment when he had the attack in the bathroom. I had to drop my wrench, then clench, and fast walk all the way to the restroom. Nothing like wicked runs, before you make record runs. Lol
4) a guy there with an 1/8 mile S-10 truck came to talk to me. He said he couldn't run the full 1/4 Bc of his gearing. He was 1 of the 1st guys down the track. I saw him run and heard his truck popping all the way down the track and then some. His throttle hung into the floorboard!! Stretched a rod and almost wrecked. Luckily he found the kill switch!
5) after I ran a couple of runs, there was a young group of crotch rocket guys there. 2 of them line up to race each other. I could tell they have little experience Bc they kept rolling past the deep stage mark and the starter would motion for him to roll back.
The first guy launched hard and red lit. So the other guy feeling late and anxious, throttles his bike! It doesn't move Bc it's in neutral! He quickly shifts it in gear, throttle still hammered, and it shoots straight up in the air!!! He comes off the bike with 1 leg and tries to run with it! It drags him about 10yards on his back Bc his leg is hung somehow. Bike is now jacked up!
6) 15 min later his other friend on his bike comes up. He nails it off the line! The bike fishtails hard side to side almost throwing him off!! Everyone ooo's and ahhh's! He lets off the throttle I'm sure checking his britches!
Then there last friend gets up there to the line. He leaves as slow as a turtle! Everybody on the starting line laughs Bc they said that MF scared now!
7) then off course all my spinning issues
8) saw a Vette with bolt ons only, 3600 stall and 100shot BUT the guy has never been on a track in his life. He ran a 16.20 1st run no nitrous. Then a 14 sec run. Then next run said he was gonna hit nitrous. I'm like uhh oww. Idk if he ever did, but I think he ran a 13 something but he was on and off the throttle.

Merc it's all hard down in this area. Lots of fast cars coming up this year and several strong veterans in this class. It's got to all come together just right. Cold weather...hurry up!

I'll keep picking at it. Won't have ported intake, PTB and UDP til next spring. Plan on running in the fall DA as is. Pretty sure that 11.98 will be lowered some what. I'll be watching the DA like a hawk soon.

Good stuff Jeff, so when the track is good you just flash the converter? I've never been able to do that without spinning but will try again when I go out again.
