It really does not mater how fast they go to me because if anyone is dumb enough to drive 180 to 190 MPH on any road they are just asking for a crash!!! Just think about some rich kid who's Mommy buys him a Z-28 for his 16th B-day, now that is scary!!!!! I am an experienced driver and I have had mine up to 158 MPH and backed out of it, way too fast for some unknown person to pull out in front of you or a deer to come out!!!!

Well we don't know what the GT500's top speed is then. We know what it will run at the top of 5th.

We do know it is 174 mph for the SS though.

Its top speed is the maximum speed that it can go on flat ground with no head or tail wind. If it needs power (or better aerodynamics) to go faster, its power/aero limited. If maxes out in top gear at redline (therefore requiring taller gearing), its gear limited. The GT500 needs more power (particularly in the mid-range) to go faster, that or better aerodynamics.

Like I said we don't know what it will run then. The guy ran the GT500 to 184.7mph that occurred at the top of 5th. The guy didn't shift to 6th to see if it would go faster.

So we don't know as of now what the top speed of the GT500 is.

It would run into it's power/aero limit in 6th gear though.

So we don't know as of now what the top speed of the GT500 is.
Then its 184.7 mph (or so). The driver knew it wouldn't go any faster in 6th, thats why he didn't shift.

In order to accelerate in 6th from 184.7 mph, it would need to be putting down well over 400 hp at the wheel. Thing is, in 6th at 184.7 the engine would to be at 4150 rpm (assuming it was a 2011 GT500 with the 3.73, but the others would still be pretty close). Anyway, at that rpm the car can only muster roughly 350 hp. If you shifted into 6th at that speed you would slow down even if you had your foot to the floor.

I say one last time, the GT500 is power limited.

Like I said from earlier on I don't think the car would pull much if at all in 6th gear.

If 5th was taller the GT500 would run faster. 6th is just to much of a gas mileage gear.

I consider that running out of gear though personally. An overdrive gear is never meant for anything but highway gas mileage.

Right, my point though was that it was apparent from that high speed run that the car was stable and not having any problems aerodynamically at those speeds...

I understand that. 5th is the last gear I would expect the car to actually perform in. It pushed 5th to the max. If Ford would have made the gear longer it would have run faster.

I wouldn't expect the car to pull at all in 6th gear.

I think you got the wrong impression of my post when I said the Camaro ran into a wall of air. I wasn't saying the car was unstable or having problems. Just that the faster you go the amount of air pushing back starts increasing exponentially. Every car will hit that mark if pushed fast enough.

I don't understand the hubbub; top speed is the 184-and-change That 6th gear is like .6X:1 or something, isn't it? If it can't pull 6th, it's out of power
