Removing cigarette smell

My son just bought a used Ford Ranger this weekend. Over all it's in good shape, but the last owner was a smoker and the cab has a stale smoke smell.

Besides using Fabreeze on the interior is there anything else to do?

Start with putting some dryer sheets under the seats for a few days. Next would be a bowl of vinegar sitting in the car over night. It will smell a little like vinegar for a few days but you will not smell the smoke any more. Put new dryer sheets under the seats and you should be good to go.

If you're serious about wanting to get rid of the smell, you'll need to physically scrub every inch of the interior with a good cleaner. There was a video of a guy that used steam to get a lot of the dirt and smell out as well. If you can't easily clean the headliner, you'll need to have it redone. If you think about it, the vast majority of the smoke will go straight up, which means the headliner is probably your biggest culprit.

My last car was a smoker's car when I got it. I took apart the dash and door panels cleaned as much as I could.

Then I used a carpet cleaner on the floors and seats. Next was cleaning the headliner (you have to dab more than scrub this).

Then I left open containers of coffee grinds in the car and let the car sit for a couple of days.

The smell was gone for me and I was able to drive the car without any problems.

Baking soda does a pretty good job of absorbing various odors.

Get an auto air ionizer , they plug into the lighter . Tried on my dads vehicle and it worked really well . You can get these on Amazon of Ebay . Run around 6-10$

Lots of good tips here so far. Clean everything you can, well.

I've had good luck with Meguiars odor eliminator.

Here is some follow up. My son and gave the whole interior a good cleaning. We used dryer sheets under the seats and that worked very well after a couple of days.

Thanks for all the tips.
