Black car and clear coat

My 2011 SS was t-boned by a deer last fall resulting in all 3 left side panels being replaced. Car had terrible swirl marks in the clear when we got it back. The shop buffed the car again and it's much better but still has some swirls. Is it possible to have a completely swirl free black, clear coat paint job? Thanks

It is entirely possible. It takes a skilled buffer operator with the right combination of polishes and pads and plenty of time.

Mine had half the hood terrible machine swirls. Looks like they started and said oh sh_t and stopped. The car was pretty bad. I did some research and just bought some 3M ultra fine machine polish. It was expensive but it took it all out. I did the whole car with a DA and the pad they recommended then waxed it. Looks incredible and I was very pleased. It was easy stuff and does not dry. Comes off real easy with a microfiber towel.

Yes it is, I've owned several black cars, to include two show cars that were swirl free ... takes a good polisher, patience & a lot of work to get & keep it that way.

Black isn't quite as hard to keep nice as many think. A good random orbital polisher, quality polishes and compounds and a bit of practice are all you need.

Thanks for the help everyone! I won't be taking it back to that body shop. Time to buy a buffer and some good products to go with it. I forgot to mention. The 3 body panels paint and labor over $11,000! Shocked the shit out of me

Hit 3 Deer with mine going 70 MPH in 0 dark thirty a.m., exactly 28 days after i bought it. was in the shop a month. front clip, and right fender. plus headlights and various internals. $11,500 to fix!

If it was an insurance job, don't sign off on it until you are happy. We pay up the ass for insurance and shouldn't have to clean up after shoddy work. Black car finishes are not rocket science, and a good clear coat is what you should have been given.

Doing your own clear coat outside a shop is inadvisable. Sounds like they did not let it cure properly or used a buffer that was too abrasive?

If the issue is just with the polish, that's an easy fix. But if the problem is with the clear coat itself, that's a much bigger deal.

Hope you get it worked out. Make sure your car is consistant all the way around. Don't want to sound like an alarmist, but in reality, you should not see any differences...

I have used this product and can attest that it is amazing with rejuvenation, but your new finish should look factory or something is wrong...
