Question FACTORY DELIVERY

Hello all as we mostly all feel we don't want any dealer people touching our new babies!! and we all probably gave specific instruction not to touch the car. BUT does any one know if we might be able to pick up our cars directly from the factory. Maybe this sounds crazy but I personlly know people that picked up there Dodge Viper and Corvette directly from the factory and drove it or shipped it home. I asked them this question but the only thing they new was it was set up by the dealer directly through the factory??

from what i understand, we cannot have factory pickup because the car's built in Canada, and due to customs laws, among other things, that ain't possible. sorry :(

the vette & viper guys can do that because they're built here in the US

Add to that the Vette is considered a premium car whereas the camaro is considered to be "just" another mass produced car so they're willing to have the extra costs, etc involved with customers around the plant.

Here's what GM says about that at chevylaunch:

Camaro will be produced at the award-winning Oshawa assembly plant in Ontario, Canada. U.S. and Canadian customs and legal requirements prevent us from offering delivery of your Camaro at the Oshawa assembly plant.

I feel like the technician(s) at the dealership arent going to do anything to the Camaro that I won't do on my way home. Maybe they will punch it once or twice before "Break in" but so will I...

Have faith in the car, it will take it!

My dealer will, as with all of the vehicles I purchased in the past, deliver the car to my country estate. They use a covered truck and trailer with a State Trooper escort. The FAA issues a temp restriction to eliminate news groups from gathering any video footage from the air....

Damn, was I day dreaming again?

Actually, when ordering a Corvette (from any U.S. Chevy dealer), one can specify the "Museum Delivery" option (RPO R8C).
The National Corvette Museum is located across the street from the Bowling Green factory and all paperwork/arrangements are completed there. rather than at the factory. The museum staff takes pictures and your name is noted on a board that day in the main foyer.
Very cool.
I believe the R8C Museum Delivery is a $490 option.

Now maybe as a Canadian, I might be able to twist a few arms so I could pick my Camaro at the factory in Oshawa, since I'm only 20 min. away! No customs, duty, paperwork for me to deal with!

Best regardSS,

Elie

Finally, a realist! If it is of great concern just be there when the car is delivered to the dealer. I am sure if they know you are there when they are moving it they will not abuse it. Unless of course you give them permission.

Long Live Camaro!

factory delivery

Hey guys,

have a little faith in the delivery system, but there are some things you can ask you dealer to do....

1. Ask him if he receives his cars directly or by third party----some dealers ship their cars to a receiving center prior to arrival on the lot...

2. If the dealer receives his cars/trucks directly all you have to do is be on his lot when a carrier arrives----tough to schedule since carriers can arrive anytime during the day.

3. You could watch how a carrier drops and how a dealer receives a fresh car at most places---don't know if that really helps....

4. Chevrolet dealers are accustomed to receiving Corvettes so you must assume that their check-in system is one of the best there is.

This is good information.

As someone who used to work freight at a retail store, I can tell you that the delivery driver usually stays in touch to let the manager know when deliveries will arrive. It's not a science, but if your dealer gets a call from the driver, ask the dealer to call you with an estimated time.

This option is reserved for the Corvette and has been discussed before.

You might since you are in a rather unique situation, but 80Zedder has told me several times that factory pickup is not going to happen.
