I'd see how the job situation pans out first. If it's going to be tough for an extended period, think smart and trade WAY down into slowsville and don't leave yourself buried. Once you're back on your feet, jump into something else. I wouldn't consider moving to an equal payment with (likely) higher operational and maintenance costs to be a wise move to save money.
Gainfully employed and never need a back seat? Sure, go for the Z06. I'd like to get one at some point myself.

Are u going through the dealers financing? cause if you are be prepared for them try and get u at a 10% loan rate cause of how old the car is and they prolly will say oh we need 2k down as well cause its old and what not. If it was me id just hold on to the Ls Camaro and wait till next year when you know if your going to be working steadily and then we will know what the 6th gen will look like and prolly come with a LT1 V8

Not sure if serious. A dog isn't exactly what comes to mind when looking at a 3100lb 400hp car. No brainer if he doesn't need the back seats. A Corvette is a Corvette, and nothing you say about mpg, top end, horsepower, or balls is going to change anything. He's still going to be rolling in a Corvette... Nobody gives a shit about your balls. |

No ,sorry I ment with the zo6. Seen a lot of good builds from tech. You can do a lot with the C5 Vette. Power & handling is your limit.
For me I need the back seats now.

Yes it's worth, but so much of the decision's soundness depends upon your own personal situation. As others have noted, you're giving up size and back seats.
I'm on my 6th Corvette right now and I think I'll always have at least one - It's a much different "club" to be in (and I don't mean that literally). There's always been just something about a Vette. Also, to me, it's all about driving an 8 - I have only one 6-cylinder and only because it was supposed to have been for my son, but I inherited it and use it for running errands. If it were for my sole means of transportation, no I would not do it. Heck, even my Camaro is not for daily driving - I might put a thousand miles on her a year, if that. What's it all about for you? Speed? Performance? Style? Do you have a family? All considerations. Value wise, looking at nothing else, it's easily a solid even trade. JMHO's... coming from someone who's had many performance cars over the years.

Op are you seriously asking this? That is a no brainer dude lol. A V6 camaro to a C5Z06? The fuel mileage will be very similar to what you are getting now, you are upgrading to a real true raw sports car with some real ba**s to it, plus the mods are endless and very affordable.
No disrespect to any V6 owner on here but its a slam dunk win win. There is absolutely zero comparisons from a 6 cyl camaro to a Z06. I have trouble driving my ls3 ss after driving my C6z06 lol. Do it and dont look back dude, the permagrin won't wear off soon neither. |

For a new gen Z06 I might trade (I've owned 2 previous Vettes and this is my 2nd Camaro) but not for this model...they look really dated imo now even though they are still good performers.

Trade for an almost 12 year old car? It's not worth $20,000.

Yep, and definitely don't ever trade for a 40 or 50 year old car (even though one could be worth three or four times the Camaro... easily), LOL

If you're looking to collect of course trading for a classic car might be the right choice but it sounds more like he wants a daily driver. And a 2003 Corvette is not a classic car, nor is it going up in value... It's going down. And it'll stay that way for another 10 years at least, if not for the rest of its life. |

And so then the six cylinder Camaro is going up in price? And how is a Corvette less reliable? Mine have always been very well built and in my six, I've never experienced any issues or problems. Did I just get lucky? I didn't know that Corvette's were not reliable cars. :( I'd take the Vette as first choice always, though for the OP it depends on his situation. $22K for a 2003 is in line with it's booked value. I've always had Camaro's too, but I have never put them in the same class as the unreliable Corvette that goes down in value.
