MGW racing shifter

yo, what's up everybody? I’m back again with another post, but today I’m gonna do a real review of my brand new Mgw short shifter

I have been using the Hurst shifter, which has been the substitution for the stock one, for more than a year now, and although I’m pretty happy with it (it's a lot better than the stock one) I have never felt in love with it. it maybe because the leverage is a way long than the stock one or because something it provides you hard time inserting the second gear.
I looked from various vendors on line and I did some research and I came out with the Hurst and the Mgw. I decided to go with the Hurst as first thought because of the name and his historical tradition. who doesn't trust a legendary name? I don't know about other people but, in my option, they could have done it better. anyway, taking Barton out from the list, the other option was the Mgw. I saw that you can buy it just from the manufacturer so I used the mail to contact the customer service asking them lot of question regarding shipment and stuff like that. they replied the same day, telling me the costs for everything I needed to know. I made the order the following day. They charged the credit card just when they were ready to ship. I got the message and I got the package had been given to ups.
Now....I don't want to criticize too much Italy but Ups took 2 days to cross the whole U.s. and they took 3 days to make 200 miles when in Italy

yesterday I got what I was waiting for. I felt that the package was heavy. I opened and I saw the piece of art. Awesome build quality tho. In the box there is everything you need for the install plus a tool useful for disconnecting 2 retainers.
The shifter is still in the box ready for tomorrow but from what I could see there is a huge difference in quality from the Hurst. even moving the shifter gives you a different feeling. As someone knows I have been working for Lamborghini for 10 years and it gives me the same feeling I got when I drove the old murcielago with the manual shifter. It’s dope
I can't wait to get it installed and feel the shifting difference

the price for this is not as savage as somebody could think 405 bucks for this with a knob included is definitely a go!

well. it has been a little pain in the ass but it worth the effort. I tried to follow the video instructions they uploaded on youtube but actually i decided to do differently

here there are pictures of the kit. awesome build quality. everything billet

one of the big work of it it was disconnectin the main body retainer. they show how to do with a transmission on a desk but when it is in the car there is no enought space and i had to use the brute force in order to remove the pin from one side.

another one is putting the lower shifting boot. I tried to follow what they suggest but actually i went differently. i removed the whole shifter and the center linkage(there is an other pin with 2 clips) so i could put the boot easily.

here some pictures of the job.

everithing installed

the knob i'm using is the one i used with the hurst. they have the same thread

guys, this shifter ,in a scale of one to 10, is definitely a go

i drove the car for just 20 minutes but it seems the 2nd gear problem is gone

MGW is the way to go in my opinion! Very well designed and a very short throw! I would definitely recommend them! They are available through JDP Motorsports also. Thats where i got mine from. Same price as going direct through MGW but with free shipping.

This shifter is great. I had mine installed a couple weeks ago and also had a hurst before. This shifter has a lot better feel to it. I'm very happy with mine. Nice choice

I drove the car today to go to work and let me tell you that this shifter is a lot better that the Hurst. On the other hand the hurst was shorter

Anybody run a pistol grip on the mgw? It looks angled back some so a pistol grip may not work well...?

The pistol grip is a thing of the past. No need to guide the shifter in these new trannies, a simple ball is the best now a days.

Their retro shifter will allow for a pistol grip if you want it. It is a straight up and down design and the threading matches Hurst threading so you can use anything Hurst. BTW you will have a hard time beating MGWs prices on their shifter balls, other companies charge a lot more for the same balls and buying them direct from the manufacturer is pretty steep also.

I agree I don't guide the shifter I just like the look and feel of the pistol grip. Feels more natural I guess.
