Has your Camaro Changed you?
So I noticed this the other day. Before I bought my Camaro, I had a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee which I kept for the winters up here in NE. When I had the jeep I would usually sit in one lane on the highways and just cruise control it to my destination. But since I got the Camaro, I feel like it changed me. I find my self frequently passing slow cars and my cruise control is set much faster than my jeep. I also find my self flooring it to 100 to get onto highways when it's safe of course . I also find myself occasionally downshifting when cruising just to hear the CAI I wouldn't say I am a bad driver but I deffinantly went from conservative to aggressive(not in a bad way) thanks to my Camaro I don't tailgate and dart between cars and such, just like to go fast!
SO how has your Camaro changed you?

I rarely take a 'leisurely' cruise in my Silverado. I'll look at a map and disappear for 3 hours in the Camaro and not think twice. And yeah the skinny pedal has issues, or is it my foot?

I think I drive slower, Knowing I have the power to pass when needed and having the HUD to remind me how fast I am actually going not how fast feels safe for the conditions has slowed me down a bit.

I built my first fast car in 1979, then followed that the next year with my first Camaro... and have had similar vehicles (maybe 80 of them) ever since. Nothing has changed.

I drove a Jeep before the Camaro too but always the same way. Not aggressive but passing slow people and opening it up when it's safe to do so. I still do that but the Camaro is 17 times better at it. LOL!! That said I'm not about to take it offroading or through 6 inches of snow.
So has it changed me? It hasn't changed my driving style but I've wanted one since I was 12 when I first saw the '69 at a show. I wanted a Gen 5 since they came out because they're "based on the 69." Finally getting one gave me two things: a sense of accomplishment and a sense of being a part of something bigger. These cars are icons. Having one makes you part of their history and so also a part of a brotherhood that's likely older than most Gen5 owners. I'm probably older than a lot of guys here - I was born in '78. So the first Camaro is still 11 years older than me! I love being an owner of American muscle that's so iconic and with such rich history. Short answer: I'm happier. |
