Tire Size Difference..

What is the difference for example a 285 tire and 315 tire both on a 22" wheel?

Width, the 315 is 30cm wider than the 285.

but the width and Wheel size are only 2 of the numbers you need.
there is also the height ratios

a 285/40/20 and a 315/40/20 side by side will have the 315 taller as the /40/ is the % of the width that is the height of the tire

30mm, 3cm.

Otherwise, completely correct.

I guess the real question is, what is the visual difference in a wider tire, on the same size wheel....like a 275/30/22 and a 315/30/22 or whatever, the 315 will be wider on a same size wheel as a 275? Sorry it's new to me :p

edit: or is it less of a visual difference and more of a performance difference?

The 315 will always be wider than the 275. The 315 is 315mm wide, and the 275 is 275mm wide. Its about a 1.2 inch difference.

Its both visual and performance.

Thanks, I think I get that..

So what does a wider tire do on the same size wheel? if a 275 fits...a 315 spills over or something?

Well, on any given width wheel, the 275 might fit and the 315 wouldn't, or vise versa - I think on like a 10 inch wheel you could fit both, but the 275 would probably be a bit stretched out and the 315 would have a bit of sidewall bulge.

315s fit best on on a 10.5-11 width rear wheel

Thats what I was thinking. So a 10 might be doable, but it would be a bit pinched. Just like 275s fit best on a 9-9.5 wheel, and would be a bit stretched on something like a 10 or a 10.5

I was curious, cause I see people talking 305/315 mostly for 10-10.5 wheels, but whenever you see 10-10.5 wheels for sale with a tire combo they are always 275/285..

Here are recommended Camaro tires, based on suggested wheel widths

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62838

I would never put a 315 tire on a 10" wheel. 10.5 minimum.
