Nope. They tag you from your rear plates.

The reason for the front plates is so they can laser your ass for speeding, plain and simple.

Works great and haven't had any problems with it.

I actually posted a warning on this on the Texas forum for guys traveling from Austin to Dallas for 9/11 weekend since it happened to me.
I just know from now when making long trips, i'm gonna strap on the front license plate.

Not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but every time I see a license plate in a car windshield (Camaro or otherwise), two thoughts instantly come to mind:
  1. That looks so "ghetto" and makes the car look MUCH worse than if the plate were just mounted on the car.
  2. That license plate in the windshield (whether attached with suction cups or not) is a bad accident waiting to happen--just a sharp-edged flying projectile, aimed at neck-level!

Just plain dumb, in my opinion....anyone else agree?

I really hate this front plate rule. I'm from MI where we didn't have to deal with this, and makes me not want to explore the rest of TX that much. The fact that it's purely for revenue just chaps my a$$ that much more. That, and the red light cameras all over the place in North Dallas.

This is a way for them to generate money no matter how nice and polite you are. With the money troubles most states and counties are having right now, don't think you will not get pulled over for this and if you do, you will likely get a ticket for it. It is also a probable cause and you can get hit with more fines if they really want to.

Its unfortunate that the Texas Supreme Court, when interpreting the definition of 'front', was deciding a case that would have free'd a drug dealer.

btw, I believe that toll booth cameras read the front plates.

I've managed to go 7 months w/o getting pulled over, but if they step up enforcement I guess I'll have to rig up one of those tie wrap mounts.

there are many options for brackets that don't require holes drilled. Seen them on this site many times.

one of the beast suggestions I saw (and I did) was pay for personalized plates and now I want them seen LOL. I will be mounting mine using the suggestion of turn the oem bracket upside-down and use zip-ties to strap it to the lower grill...

The Supreme Court is simply ruling on the letter of the law. That particular case, regardless of the outcome, would not have had any effect on whether a front license plate is required or not. I don't think having your front plate on your dashboard is a very good idea anyway, for exactly the same reasons that Pete listed above. In addition, the thought of that piece of tin or aluminum sliding across my dashboard makes me shudder...

Toll booths read both the front and rear license plate. Some of them actually send you a photo with your bill if you don't have one of those toll tag things.

I haven't had a front plate on my Camaro at all since I picked it up in June of 2009, and I have no intention of ever putting it on there.

From what I understand that doesn't work with GFX and I really didn't want to pay 50 - 100 to solve the issue.

There are however, plenty of other solutions for me to choose.
