I know the feeling but you really do need to tone it down a little before the local police "give you a reason" to tone it down. Have fun but be very careful!!!!

The car is made for this stuff. Spinning the tires will cause premature tire wear but the engine in my A6 L99 is designed to be redlined at 6000 to 6500 RPM. This is the operating range. You can not over rev it because of the rev limiter. Mr. Oppenheiser knows that we are buying these cars to drive the hell out of them and they are designed to take it. Why get the V-8 if you're going to natter around in it. Get a Prius then. Enjoy your car WFO at any time that you can do it safely. It has six bolt main bearings. It has short push rods and on top of it, Chevrolet makes a version of your LS3 - L99 that makes over 600 HP with the same basic engine.

Seems like on a monthly basis I find myself heading to a straight road that runs for about a mile or so in between two fields. Not a house or car around. Once I get to about 2k, I'll run through 1st - 4th while hitting 6800 rpm in every gear. sumbitch is fast.....
Other than that, just regular driving, and the occasional rpm rush. Nothing I'd consider as beating on my car. These cars are made to be driven hard.

Have fun - but remember it does not necessarily take speed for this to happen . . .

Im trying to be less critical and friendly to peoples opinions but anyone who drives an SS like a Nancy just waisted their money. As previously mentioned by others in this thread, this car is meant to move. Sure it sucks buying new tires after 15k miles but its a price you pay for performance. As far a breaks, you have Brembos, stopping cars is what they do. Sure youll go through break pads faster but come on!!! I drive my baby hard and take good care of her, keep your car maintained religously and you shouldnt have problems. I do however believe in doing all of this safely for the sake of others.

These new LS engines (and the whole drivetrain for that matter) are highly, highly durable. If it has the capability to do it, it can do it safely. GM wouldn't give us a 100k warranty otherwise. The kicker is MAINTENANCE! Keep her well maintained and she'll be puttin a smile on your face for many years to come

This is what I have done to my Camaro in the last year:
25k+ miles (Miami - Phoenix, Miami - Kentucky, Miami - Georgia x 2, driving her daily to the shop) 25-30 top speed passes at the standing mile events Hundreds of laps at Sebring, Homestead, Palm Beach Raceway 60-70 passes in Auto-x events 100+ passes down the 1/4 mile All this with just a hair under 500whp (H/C) And the motor is still healthy and drives like new! These motors are extremely durable and hold up great with regular maintenance (oil, fluids etc). /Erik |
