My truck has been in for this twice. The first time, one of the lifters actually broke and a piece of "something" got down and scored my cam. New cam and new lifters... The second time, I wasn't getting a CEL, but it was still ticking at all engine speeds and they replaced them again citing the fact that they put the "wrong part number" in on their first try... I asked if they could replace the lifters and cam with something that wasn't AFM and they wouldn't do it. I'd have them check your cam for scoring while they have it apart... just my experience.

I had my lifters updated due to a cold start tick back in November . I was told GM got a bad batch of AFM lifters from one certain vender and when doing the replacement they use another vendor . FYI the NON - AFM lifters they used to replace in mine are listed for LS7

Glad this worked out for you.
A better example of misinformation....

A TSB has been available for this problem for over a year. This is a defect from the factory on the L99s. GM can fall back on the tune as proof that a TUNE changed variables on a vehicle they placed a warranty on...they CANNOT do that or fight the claim when the TSB is already active from the factory. This has nothing to do with a tune.

You will not be denied warranty work on a TSB item. If they won't deny it with a maggie, they certainly wont with simple bolt ons and a tune.

I was thinking the exact same thing...what do cam and lifter upgrades usually run? I think one guy here does it around 2200. Seems high, but never been through that mod.

HERE IS MY UPDATE FOR WED 3/30

AS YOU ALL READ I DROPPED MY CAR OFF ON FRIDAY TO DEALER TO HAVE THE MISFIRES/TINY SHARDS OF METAL IN THE OIL, POSSIBLE ALL DUE TO THE LIFTERS STARTING TO FAIL... WELL TODAY THE MECHANIC FROM DEALER CALLS AND SAYS THERES NOTHING HE CAN DO?? IM LIKE WHAT???

WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR IN FRIDAY HE KNEW ALREADY BEFORE HAND MY CAR HAS BEEN MODIFIED AND HAS A TUNE, THIS WAS SUPPOSE TO BE A FAVOR OF A FRIEND OF A FRIEND.. WELL TURNS OUT 5 DAYS LATER AND HE TELLS ME BECAUSE THE CAR DOESNT HAVE STOCK TUNE HE CANT DIAGNOIS THE PROBLEM CORRECTLY AND GM WONT COVER ANY WORK.. GM, WANTS A COPY OF THE COMPUTER BEFORE THEY WARRANTY ANY WORK.. THE SHOP FOREMAN TOLD ME ALL HE COULD SEE WAS THE CAR WAS MISFIRING ALL OVER BUT REALLY BAD AT CYL#5 AND 7... HE SAID 1,4 AND 6 WERE NOT AS BAD SO HE REALLY THINKS IT AINT THE LIFTERS..HIS ADVICE...TAKE IT BACK TO MY TUNER(TUNE TIME) HAVE HIM RETURN THE CAR TO STOCK TUNE AND START FROM THEIR TO SEE WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?? MAYBE THE TUNE NEEDS TO BE TWEAKED, I DONT KNOW??? i guess he did me a big favor by not having my vin# red flagged in the system so no work would ever covered under warranty

SO NOW I HAVE THE CAR BACK IN THE GARAGE AND HAVE NO PLAN AS OF NOW...
SO I CALLED MY GUY AT TUNE TIME WHO HAS DONE ALL THE WORK TO MY CAR AS WELL AS THE TUNE, EXPLAINED TO HIM THE BEST I COULD WHAT HAPPENED AND I HAVE TO WAIT TILL MONDAY TO BRING HIM MY CAR TO TRY AND COME UP WITH A PLAN OF ACTION...

SO I WANTED TO COME ON HERE AND ASK FOR SOME HELP,
I GOT TILL MONDAY TO COME UP WITH SOME SORT OF A CHECKLIST..

MY CAR HAS TINY TINY METAL SHARDS IN THE OIL
THE CAR HAS MISFIRES AS WELL ALL OVER..

WHAT ELSE COULD IT BE IF IT IS NOT THE LIFTERS GUYS??
WILL RETURNING MY CAR BACK TO STOCK TUNE HELP WITH THIS ISSUE TO SEE WHATS UP AND THEN JUST RE-WORK THE NEW TUNE?? IM LOST??

ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!!!!!!
:(

It's not up to your dealer. GM corporate wont allow warranty work without an ecm check anymore.

Could the metal shards/shavings found on the dipstick caused from the new gears i had put in but that was last year and had diff oil changed then??? What about the TC i just added?? Maybe the trans fluid needs to be changed?? i only have 8200 miles on the car... but what explains all the misfires???
