I've been to a dealer for repairs once, new differential in my 2011 Silverado. They forgot to hook up the e-brake cables.
My brother-in-law worked for a GM dealership, and I remember him telling me stories of getting paid for 16 or 20 hours of work in an 8 hour shift! If a job is rated for 3 hours, and its done in 30 minutes, they still get paid 3 hours, and the extra 2.5 hours of time goes toward the next job!

Ridiculous system IMO...

Yes, all flat rate mechanics brag about how fast they can do jobs. Some non-dealer businesses pay their mechanics flat rate too. Ask before you get any work done and steer clear of them.
It's impossible to do a job properly in the time they do.

What did the original rear end noise end up being?

Was like a noise that sounded like tires rubbing in the wheel well and it turned out to be the clutch packs

I had the same thing done to mine, well almost, at Red River Chevrolet. I had mismatched sizes on one side, like they switched one side and not the other(front to back). I always check my car before leaving after my first issue there. Glad I did.

Sometimes it sucks. I ordered my Camaro from a dealership 40 miles away because of how friendly and knowledgeable they are. There is one 5 mins from my house that i refuse to go to. Sucks cause now ill have that many more miles on my camaro just to get a oil change.
