I got the letter. Took it in and got it repaired without any issues.
Next day, code came back. I have to assume either they didn't do or anything at all other than clear the code, or they did the repair stated in the letter and it didn't fix anything. Either way, not happy with Chevrolet. |

Took my vehicle in on Friday - 2010 2 LT with 27K miles and was throwing a CEL. Autel code reader flagged for P0449.
EVAP cannister solenoid was dirty. Cannister had somehow broken and was leaving charcoal debris. The dealership and GM assist pulled through this time. Paid $200 out of pocket. |

UPDATE: I never heard anything from anyone on my report I filed. Guess it's not that big of a deal for them to get back to me.

I have a 2010 Camaro RS with 65,572 miles and the vent valve solenoid just went at the cost of $965 . NOW they have changed the design of it, so like the recall on the switch blade like keys...WHY not recall the car for the solenoid and fix it ....

vent valve solenoid
Had a v. v. solenoid put on my 2010 Camaro RS and when they turned it on it shorted out...What caused it and how much damage could it cause ? Was it the dealers fault or just an accident ?

I'm having this issue as well guys, glad I found this thread. My circumstances may be a bit different so any help on this would be appreciated...
I've got a 2010 2LT RS. Around 2.5 years ago someone put a pretty significant amount of sugar in my gas tank. I got insurance involved and eventually they needed to dump and clean my tank, and replaced *certain* injectors, among other things (If I weren't at work right now, I could tell you the exact word that was done/parts replaced and can update later). About a year and a half ago, other injectors that weren't initially replaced failed, and subsequently replaced. Since I've been driving my Camaro this summer, I've noticed that performance wise - something wasn't right. As time has passed the problem has become more evident - it was hard to explain at first because it was more of a 'feel' thing for ME, since I'm used to the way it should feel. Now I have a really noticeable (what I'll call a) 'sputter' when the engine is under a light load and I'm casually accelerating through 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears between 1800 and 2200 RPMs. It FEELS like the car needs to 'clear its throat' is the best way I can describe it... Low and behold I get the CEL. Take it to a mechanic other than the dealer because I had happened to be getting work on my winter driver and just wanted them to check the code for me. P0449. After I explained my prior problems with the sugar in the tank the mechanic was POSITIVE that this is what is causing my degraded performance, and insisted that this SHOULD have been replaced by the dealer when they did the fuel system work initially, but he did not believe it had been done. I've noticed after reading through here that none of you guys have mentioned poor performance? Leads me to wonder if I have something else going on amidst this vent solenoid valve issue? If you couldn't tell, I'm not very car savvy, but I understand the basics. The way the mechanic explained it to me it sounded pretty convincing that this would be causing my 'stutter' in the aforementioned RPM ranges. He theorized that the sugar could have crystalized over time and is now forcing the valve to either be stuck closed or open and the fumes aren't exiting at the proper rate that they should and this is causing my CEL/poor performance. After reading so many of you (whom I'll assume aren't the victims of vandalism) are having issues with this, however, I'm a bit more skeptical? Any help at all in helping me understand what's going on/what my next step should be would be greatly appreciated. I do trust this mechanic, and he mentioned they'd have to drop the rear end and I'd be looking at just over $1100 if I wanted them to do the work - so he suggested I get insurance involved again and take it back to the dealer. Again, any thoughts would be a big help! Last edited by krodgers88; 07-14-2015 at 12:43 PM. |

Evap Vent control solenoid
My 2010 Camaro 1LT had the check engine light come on, and after taking it to the dealer, it showed a bad Evap vent control solenoid. My car has 42K on it, and they said it was out of warranty and would cost $580.57 to replace the bad emissions component.
After reading all of your posts, I contacted Chevy customer service (800-222-1020). They were very nice, but said it wasn't covered, but they would try and work something out with the dealer to cover some of the cost. I should hear back in a few days, and I'll follow up to let you know how it goes. In general, I've really enjoyed this car (bought it new), but seeing an emissions component that is clearly a defective design not be covered is very frustrating. Hopefully, they'll offer some help in getting this very common issue fixed. |
