Hey guys, I am new to the forum, and have a question.....I went to my local dealership to order my new 2SS and the General Manager and Sales Manager were there to shake my hand and say I am #3 on the list for the 2SS , but not to expect the car for a YEAR !!!!!????? Am i missing something ? I thought they would be here sooner than this. Any clarification ??

Hmm...thats puzzling. The general consensus is that the first camaros will hit the streets in april/may. As long as you have an allocation tied up you shouldnt see yours after sept/oct at the latest. That is of course if things go as GM plans, which I suspect it wont.

It's debateble. Do a search for "IDL" and sit down with a cup of coffee and enjoy the long read.

Its really weird, bc everyone keeps saying April/May, but the GM of the dealership was like, give me a $1000 told hold your #3 spot, and we will talk to you in October to come and sit down to pick all your options for the car !?!?!?!?! This is crazy ! I am so confused....I seriously thought they were kidding for a min, but he said no joke....they are allocated 4-6 2SS' , so I will be getting mine on the first set of deliveries but I just can't believe they told me that

You don't live in New Hampshire? Not a problem, as I live in Georgia and I ordered my 08 Vette from him which was delivered locally after it left the plant. He can explain it all to you on the phone. Look on Corvette Forum and you will see that lots of guys have bought from him- he's used to out-of-state customers, which is why he has to give a better deal, to make you deal with him. Of course the markup and "wiggle room" is more with a Vette than a Camaro. I promise that I am not married to his sister, don't know him personally or anything, but I buy from who gives me the best deal. After I shopped for a new Vette, he was the one. Don't care about the coffee at the dealership or how nice the salesman is, just the bottom line. Last edited by Cyberfan; 02-02-2009 at 01:54 PM. |

it is probably dealers playing it safe. I wouldn't want to promise a date and not have the car by then.
If it comes earlier, than good, if not the customer is not expecting it anyway |

Also, some dealers are not allowed a lot of GM allocations (they don't have a history of being a volume dealer, able to sell cars quickly) so the wait could be longer for that dealer- that might be your dealer, If so, move on and find a volume dealer that moves a lot of Corvettes- they are likely to get a lot of SS allocations- MacMulkin like in my last post; Kerbeck is another one.

Hi and welcome to the site. Let's get the obvious out of the way first...
As Gotham said..."Your dealer is an idiot". Now, on to answer the questions. IF nothing else changes AND IF I understand this correctly, as long as you get your order into a dealership that still has allocation left before March 16th, 2009 which is the official date production starts, your order will be considered a pre-order (Anybody correct me if I'm wrong). It has been said by some of the most reliable source(s) on this site as well as info from the IDL that ALL "Pre-orders" will be completed by October, 2009. I choose to believe that worst case scenario says that delivery of the last "pre-order" car would be by Thanksgiving, 2009. The only other thing to realize is that since 80+% of the pre-orders were V8s, therefore, it is reasonable to believe that there will be a great many V8s being made on the tail end of the production window towards October. Exactly when ANYBODY'S car is going to be made and delivered is still just speculation at this point. Now that all this has been said, the best advice I can give you is to shop dealers to find one that is on top of their game and informed. As others would agree in this thread, it does not sound like your current dealer is current with what is going on or does not understand the information they've been given correctly. Good luck. |
