To date, the best car ever made?
Now, I'm going to try and be real objective here, which will be difficult but uh, whatever!
As I was driving my LT the other day, I was pondering how amazing these cars are as a complete package. To the point where, when you factor in the long list of positive attributes about the 5th gen, one has a decent case that these cars may be some of the best ever made, if not THE best. So I pose a question, name me a car that satisfies all these requirements: -looks better than a 5th gen -offers similar or better performance -is even remotely as SAFE -offers as unique of a driving experience -widely loved by the public -great aftermarket support -close in price (when new) -similar or better features -Has a strong road presence Any car I think of that comes close fails to satisfy at least 2-3 of these attributes. Granted I'm 22 so I wasn't around during the muscle car age, but I do know those cars weren't safe. So can you name anything better? As far as I'm concerned, until we are dethroned, this is the best car ever made. Mainly because of everything you get for the price. Its the total package, not one particular thing. Edit: All I'm really saying is that I don't think there has ever been a car in history that has offered what these cars do for the price, which to ME, makes it the best car ever, until it is dethroned. I dont know about the best ever , maybe?
I do know that I am having more fun fun in this car than any of the other 40 or so cars I have ever owned. In just 2100 miles , I have had more good times , good looks , good runs , than any other. I can only imagine what fun will have been had after 100k miles. |

I've gone through 22 cars in my life. After the closing of my house, I will be getting an SS.
Now, some of the things that you mentioned are subjective. Everything you just said could be said by the Mustang, Challenger or Genesis Coupe members. All of these cars (in V6 trim) are closely priced and close in specs. The big factor for choosing any of those cars would most likely be on what you like the most. For me, I've spent the past 4 months deciding/researching my next car. My boys are pretty much grown (22 and 19) and I already have a family car (Murano) so now its time for fun. My requirements were: -6 speed M.T. -Rear wheel drive -Coupe -v6 or V8 (preferably v8) -fun to drive -easier to work on (mods/repairs/upgrades) vs the German cars Ive owned. - And most important....something that stirs the soul. The answer: Camaro SS At least for me. |

OP - pretty pointless rave if you ask me. Go to a Subaru forum, and you'll find your counter-part making exactly the same rave about the STI. Therefore all these raves are pointless because they are completely irrelevant to anyone other than someone who drives a Camaro; in other words: you're preaching to the choir.

Autoweek or someone had a best 20 Chevrolet list of all time about a year ago. Don't think the 5th gen even made the top ten. Seems like the '69 Camaro barely beat out the '70 Chevelle. There was a thread or two about it with a link to vote. Can't find it though.

There are better cars out there, too many to list, but when they were new did they offer what these cars do for the price? I'm leaning towards nope! Keep the big picture in mind here, the total package and the timing. |
