Question so i got into an accident a while back..

and the car is almost done. my Electronic power steering motor had to be replaced and a few air bags.. so my body shop is telling me that it has to go to a chevy dealer and have the EPS and and air bags reset. my question is will this resetting of things effect my tune? is having these things reset after an accident normal? i didnt know it required to go to chevy for that especially the EPS, i can understand the airs bags needing to be reset but why the EPS? any help or advice would be great.

If you are looking for a quick answer to this, I would recommend re-naming your thread title. Lots of people will just assume its an accident story and not even read it, especially the technical guys who may know the answer to your question. Good luck!

They probably have to reset the BCM in the case of the airbags. (Body Control Module)

Your engine tune is done in the ECM (Engine Control Module)

Two different modules.

what module controls the EPS system? maybe the BCM as well

The electric power steering ECU module probably gathers data from all of the modules in one way or another. The BCM does the thinking of the operation for the system. They interact so one would think that yes something will need to be reset. Will it require a reflash to stock tune on the ECM? Dunno. Probably need to talk to them and find out. Personally i doubt that would be required since data is simply being fed from various modules to the BCM then deciphered, computed and then the data in a simpler form is sent to the steering ECU so it can implement thd provided data.

Think of the BCM as the brain of the operations and the steering module as the minion that just does it's job based off what the BCM gave it.

Im assuming that you chose to handle this accident on your own rather than go through your insurance because a lot of people say that if your airbags deploy that they usually total your car. Im just curious because I always wondered how much it would be to have to reset your airbags.

If your repair shop wants to take your car to the dealer to reprogram something let them!

I don't see this as being a bad thing at all. They know their limitations and are willing to go the extra mile to make sure your car is giving to you in factory condition.

I'd rather have them do that then screw something up trying to do this themselves.

Just my two cents!
