hard to start, when warm?
I have a new one, I have a hard time starting my car after its been shut off for a few mins? I hope to get this out right so you know what I'm dealing with. I start the car first thing in the morning, everything is good. I drive to anyplace and shut it off, no it doesn't have to be up to temp for this to happen. I get back in the car and try to start it, it starts real hard (sometimes doesn't start at all). I will try to start it again (turn key all the way off) and she fires up?????? Does this sound or make any sense? If I wait sometime before starting it again it seems to be ok also.
So there you have it, I wanted to try here before I go to the dealer for a fix. This has been going on for about a month, it just keeps getting harder and harder to start. I did put on a new exhaust but it was doing it before that was done.

Maybe its the starter? Sounds like could be a wire connection.

it turns over fine, when it acts as if its going to start its almost like it has no fuel. When you let go of the key it acts like you should have held on for a bit longer. start it the same way when its cold and it fires right up?

I've noticed this a couple of times too. Not sure why either. Turns over fine, but it acts like something is holding it back. And I agree, it only does it after I run in somewhere for just a few minutes.

heat soak. It happens only after you shut the car off after driving, let car sit for a little while, re-start it and it may take a couple of cranks to get it fired up. No problem.
BTW, you don't need to hold the key all the way to the right, just turn the key to crank and let go. The engine will crank on its own. |

FWIW, my SS takes 2-4 seconds to fire up. My 2008 Suburban is the same way. My 2007 Accord fires up in 1/2 second. Goodluck OP. |

I've seen other cars do this due to the gas cap not being tightened all the way or having a bad cap. Make sure you have turned it tight enough to make it CLICK. Just a guess, but worth looking at.

I heard of vapor lock on carbureted engines. The fuel near the engine would actually be in vapor state and when trying to crank the vapor would just act like a spring and compress and expand with the pump cycles so the fuel would not move, the vapor bubble would just bounce back and forth for a bit until it got worked along. Once the engine cooled down the vapor would condense back to a liquid so it would start fine. If that were the case, try to turn your key to the run position to let the fuel pump run for a few seconds and then try cranking.
