Drag radial set up (TPMS)

Hey guys,

Just wondering if I will be able to run TPMS in my drag radial set up. I purchased a separate set of 18" MT drag radials on C6 Z06 rims. I will be running my stock 20's on the street but I'd like to have sensors in my drag radial set up for when I swap them for the track.

Please advise. Thanks!

I think you can as long as you buy new sensors for the 18" wheels.

It sounds like they will need to be reprogrammed every time on swap tires/wheels. Bummer.

Thanks

I'm not sure about an alternate set having to be reset. When I take my street wheels off and put my slicks on, my slicks have no TPMS sensors, therefore on my rear wheels nothing shows up on the DIC.
As soon as I put my street wheels back on, the sensors pick up where they left off. I do nothing different.

the pressure you should be running drag radials at (22-25 psi) for regular street driving is going to set off the tpms anyway.

I don't really see the point of TPMS in your drag tires. You aren't going to be using the car to read your tire pressure at the track and they are only going to on for a short time, so why the added expense. Also, most likely you will be running pressures that the TPMS isn't going to like anyway, so why do you want to see the annoying low pressure light? Skip it and save the money nene time spent reprogramming every time.

Yeah, good point. I was just thinking that it might be kinda slick to keep an eye on the pressures from the car while I'm playing with it at the track. I realize that its overkill, but for $40 in sensors, it didn't seem like a huge expense before I get them mounted and balanced.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the advice.

Unless you plan to drive with your DR's in for several weeks at a time. Otherwise I agree, it's a waste. Probably not near as accurate as a good tire gauge.

I was thinking that I might keep the DR's on for a little while before and after the track, but it's not a big deal.

I appreciate the advice guys. I'm gonna cancel the TPMS order.

I wouldn't do that unless you have to. You'll eat up your tread on the street. Drag radials have soft tread wear....good for the track but not so good on the street.

Like SG0 was doing, I daily drive on DR's (NT05R) as soon as it's nice out until the fall. So I think I'll run thru a set a year. My daily commute is only 10 miles round trip. So I run TPMS in them but I bought a really nice tire gauge to use at the track.

But I'll be getting slicks for 2014 and they will not get TPMS and will not be street driven unless someone wants to run me for money.

Thatta boy!! I can't wait until spring. Hoping for low 11's at 120+!! By far the fastest car I've ever owned. Good times.

I have TPMS since I leave my DRs on most of the time. I work from home and the DRs do not wear much faster than my stock tires. For 2013s and up you need a TPMS tool. ($60). I think the older cars can re-acquire TPMS signals from the DIC settings.

I don't care about warnings the car gives me. All those pretty lights in the dash. lol. And it is nice to have some idea how much air I have in the tires. If they get hot the pounds go up.
