Attaching vented engine cover mesh
Just a quick question for anyone that has cut their engine cover and put the mesh, or expanded metal on the back side.
How are you attaching it? Screws? epoxy? I don't want it falling off while I'm driving, so what seems to work best? Thank you |

Any of the ones I have seen are done with one form or another of epoxy. Somewhat limited as to what can be done under there as far as screws go, not many spots thick enough. A good epoxy shouldn't have a problem holding. I can get you a brand and part number of the stuff we use on anything like that tomorrow, it's a little expensive, but it will never let go.

VRT or rivets all up to you. I have used both and have had no issues with the mesh falling out.

I cut little pieces of the plastic cover I cut out , about 3/4 inch square and used JB weld to epoxy them on the bottom. I put 2. 3 lb weights on the screen to hold them down until the epoxy dried. I also used the quick set epoxy [ sets up in about 4-5 minutes] and they look great and are very solid.

Thanks Kyle, That would be great. I have seen some with screws through the top that seem to buckle the screen underneath.
I am open to all options at this point. just want to get it done. LOL I have heard of the RTV and JB weld being used for other things as well. I just worry about them not holding as well as a good epoxy etching/bonding into the plastic. Is the cover ABS? |
