z/28 question

ok so ive been watching videos and looking at pictures of the Z and it looks to me like there are plastic inserts where the fog lights should be? please correct me if im wrong but wtf?! I realize that its a "track" based car and they are trying to shave weight and suck, ok.....I will most likely not ever be in the market for one but it seems like a 60k+ car should at least some with functional fog lights. please someone tell me im wrong!

“We looked at every subsystem for opportunities to save weight,” said Oppenheiser. “Our goal was to get rid of everything that didn’t make the car faster, and keep only what was required by law. For example, we wanted to eliminate the audio system completely, but we had to keep a single speaker for the seat-belt chime to meet safety requirements.”

Other examples of weight savings include:

Eliminated the tire-inflator kit, except for Rhode Island and New Hampshire, where it is required by law
Removed interior sound deadener, and carpeting from the trunk
Replaced the standard LN4 battery with a smaller, lightweight, LN3 battery
Specified thinner, 3.2-mm glass for the rear window, compared to 3.5-mm glass on the standard Camaro
HID headlamps and foglights are not available
Air conditioning is only available as a stand-alone option

stupid question but, why not just delete it all together instead of putting plastic inserts?

Because two random holes in the front fascia would look stupid.

And probably affect aero.

That seems very likely. It's suppose to be a track car. It doesn't have air conditioning. What good are fog lights?

Because then you have to re-engineer an entirely new front fascia specifically for the Z/28. Which takes time and costs money.

I'm all about the weivht savings on that car, but fake fog lights looks like crap. Have a flat piece of plastic or something there, that's what I think.

They could have maybe used them as cooling ducts for the brakes.

They eliminated a bunch of stuff and instead of reducing the price, they increased it!
