MGW Short throw shifter review
Okay. Spent A LOT of time with this shifter since Saturday mornings install with George at MGW. (REALLY nice guy, and had me cracking up while we were filming, with his sense of humor.)
Since the drive back to Atlanta is about 2 to 3 hours, with long straightaways and a speed limit of 70 mph, you can just imagine how much FUN the drive back was (it also helps that your visual range is about 3 to 4 miles ahead and behind-so if your in the Atl, I HIGHLY suggest you take this route at some point.) Nuff said. Price wise, this beauty is on point. At 300-375, your paying the same price for THE WHOLE HOUSING as well as the machined stick. Same price as other manufacturers, but your gettin a whole lot more...Cant beat that now can ya? Looking at the work that went into it, and comparing it to the factory housing is just, well, embarrassing. Mass produced always loses out, but the slop and the play in the factory housing is just blatant. Comparing them side by side is just no contest. As far as I know it is the only replacement housing, and is really the only choice if you wanna do it right. (Replacing just the stick still leaves all the play in the HOUSING-even swapping out just the bushings, seeing whats in there, factory stock-just makes me uncomfortable) For those REALLY picky, a set of bushings is about the only internal part left to change out. But so far it does not feel needed IMHO. Now for the good stuff!! Yep, its out-f***ing-standing, the easy buttery, miss-shifty feel is GONE. This thing is a TANK, with LOTS of armor, crushing everything in its path. I actually TRIED at one point to just abuse it, and it just takes EVERYTHING i threw at it...(which was a LOT) no miss shifts, no lock outs from torque or binding, and I mean I TRIED, man. Brutal curves (75/85 split---is it me or does anyone else wanna drift this curve??)) at high rates of speed, and a gear drop were consistent and easy. You can just slam and rip sooo fast through gearing its, well, just SICK. In a nutshell? DROP what your doing and go GET ONE! if your in Atlanta do the drive....its sooo worth it. (and you can break in that motor while yer goin ta get it too) |

They make a great product. Best shifter I have ever had (I had their 03/04 cobra shifter).
