Hurst caused 2nd gear grind
Removing of the non factory Hurst short throw shifter in my '12 ss vert was the decision I have made! NO more grinding no more miss shifts. And it feels much more solid and feels like it belongs. If anyone has installed the hurst shifter and had been getting grinding than immediately take it out.imo

Now I'm a little confused. I thought the second gear grind was always there and the shorter throws just enhanced the grind because of faster shifting. Also did you miss gears a lot with the hurst?

I really don't understand what you're trying to say or what you did to fix it. Confused.

Exactly why I ordered my '12 with the base shifter. The last thing the Tremec likes is faster shifts from a shorter throw. And really, the base shifter is a pretty short throw already. Anyone that doesn't think so, never drove anything from the 60s/70s where the shifts were a full arm reach. I had a Chevelle with an M22 Rock Crusher, it was like violently rowing a boat.
The ones I've driven with the Hurst, if I try to shift fast... too notchy and grindy for my taste. I've got use to the base shifter that is smoother. |

The way the Hurst is put together with the shift lever connected to the upper stick attachment with two littel hex screws, Problems waiting to happen, Like grinding, wobbel from left two right. flimzy.

The factory shift lever is connected to the upper stick by moulded rubber. That is better than metal to metal held together with two bolts? They both work, but neither have anything to do with gears grinding or wobble.

Sorry for the confusion, I created a post a while back listing my constant grinding and mis shifts with the hurst shorty in my SS. After removing the shifter I replaced it back to stock and you can immediately tell the difference. The hurst did feel very flimsy IMO and just felt cheap. In conclusion maybe it only happens in the convertibles but I deffinitely don't recommend this mod.

I love my Hurst. Been in since August 2009 as well. Not flimsy and cheap at all. I do gat a grind from time to time but 10 times out of 10, its my fault... not the tranny or shifters.
I am glad youre happy with the OEM shifter, I think it was spongy and I had way more missed shifts in the month I had the OEM than I have since. Different strokes for different folks I suppose. |
