Uh oh, ZL1 gets another run for its money.

I knew it was only a matter of time and here it is. BMW is upping its ante. Come on GM....

I seem to battle harder with BMW's on the track more than any other car. Mad respect for them and their drivers. Just not my thing.

Meh...

It's a sedan that will start (with zero options) at a price point well above what a ZL1 1LE would run you. They don't really compare and I'd be surprised if anyone in the world would even think about cross shopping these two.
It's all wheel drive and they claim 3.5 seconds 0-60. On a track once you're beyond the advantage that all wheel drive gives you from a standing start... It'll never come close to lapping where the ZL1 does.

IMO

Stupid expensive and it will lose $35,000 in the 1st year if not sooner. Its ugly just like every other BMW, European taxi cabs.

I have never heard someone refer to them as taxi cabs, but you are correct. They all look alike no matter the 1M, M2, M3, M4, M5, M6. Just bigger compared to the next one.

I will never buy another BMW. If someone gave me one, I would sell it and get something else.

Present M5 starts at 94K, I bet this 2018 M5 AWD comes in at over 100K.
Apples to Oranges comparison.

Can you imagine an AWD ZL1 1LE 800hp (coming soon to a theater near you) Extreme Track Pack, no back seat, etc

The M5 will be a bore to drive, even while doing insane burnouts via iDrive. It could have a trillion HP, it doesn't fix the fundamental dynamic problems BMW is inducing upon their cars.

It never lets you drive and is always separating you from the experience.

It will be spendy, I had an E60 M5 (V-10, SMG III), I liked the car a lot, but the trans wasn't very good.

I bought the car as a lease return it was under 3 years old, it had under 17,000 miles and I paid about 51% or MSRP, that is the only way to buy an M5

That's because over the pond, they are taxis. They're only special elsewhere. In the European area, they're quite common and rarely do people bat an eye.

It would be like someone here going sideways looking at a Crown Vic or a Taurus going down the road

I had a loaner 328i when my M3 was getting serviced. The trash-mission was terrible, stayed in one gear and wouldn't let go unless I let off the gas.
