Would you trailer a motorcycle behind your camaro?
So I'm going to NY next week (about 1200 miles round trip) and my buddy wants me to bring my bike. That means I have to trailer it up with my truck, which gets 8 MPG, and is boring as heck, doesnt have cruise control, and its uncomfortable because its lifted on big tires.
So I'm at dinner with my parents (we eat together every weds) and my mom suggests why don't I trailer it with my camaro. My response to her was "Heck no... I'd never do such a thing". Now I'm questioning my response. Isn't that completely illogical? Theres no reason I can't trailer my motorcycle with the camaro. Wouldnt it be fine??? Why shouldnt I do it? I have a hitch already for AutoX and track days, so I already trailer with it... Yeah this is a little heavier, but not enough to really matter? Maybe 500 lbs total? (bike + trailer)??? I mean I've even seen people with uhauls and stuff on their maros (http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23426 ) but is there any legitimate draw back besides irrational camaro-Love? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

2010 Camaro SS modified extensively. I stretched the body to make it a 4 door, but I swapped in the 3.6L DI V6 for fuel economy. Then I picked up a corvette body around the V8. I also swapped the body for a C2 Z28. (In short I traded it for three cars, a Corvette Z06r, a C2 Camaro Z28, and a Cadillac CTS Summer Performance package 3.6L DI with Aisin 6spd.)

I would. It's rated up to 1000, so you'd be good. I know many on here will disagree, but I say go for it!

The tongue weight should not be an issue. You bought it to have fun. Go have fun.

I would not tow anything on a vehicle that was not designed for that. Not even a lawn mower.

I would say it depends on the Bike and trailer you have. The right Bike with the Right trailer could easily exceed 1,000Lbs. If I had a truck I would be using it.

As long as the trailer tongue weight is low and total weight isn't crazy then do it. I've towed more weight on smaller cars with smaller brakes and less hp and never had an issue.
Its funny how people freak out about 1k lbs. 4 big guys in a vehicle and some crap in the trunk can easily exceed 1k lbs. Do you open the door and throw your least favorite friend out when you approach a stop because you're scared the brakes and suspension can't handle it? Taking the camaro to the drag strip puts a crap ton more stress on your vehicle than some big boned friends or small trailer while driving normally. The weight does change the driving characteristics of any vehicle, car or truck. As long as you don't drive like a moron, anticipate stops, etc. you're fine. |

Depends on how mush the bike and trailer weigh. Based on the weight you indicated you should be fine. A few bushing and subfram inserts from Pedders would help keep everything more stable. But if you are using your Camaro for autoX the same bushings will help there as well.
