rear tires wear inside

have a pedders full xa coilover/bushings/alignment...problem is that after 2000 miles ,rear tires are starting to wear really bad on inside..315/25/22.. others with these exact tires are not having this problem..mechanic check , and said camber was -1,which looks correct, any ideas, i did print out from the page from petes post on alignment and will take that in tomorrow, but looking for more ideas...tires worn in rear are identical,..

Must be alignment if they are equal, get it back on a rack and checked.

Normal if you don't drive your car hard for negative camber to wear the inside, especially in a hot climate like FL where the road surface is very hot, causes tires to wear even faster.

but 2000 miles, i,m lucky to get another 1000 miles out of them at this pace..talk to half dozen other guys and they were between 4500 and 12000 miles, with no bad wear.. tires almost new in middle and outside..they thru back on rack today before tearing my rear out and installing a 9...-1 on camber...but def going back on rack when done , so we can look at it again afterwards..

Tons of other guys isn't you. Reality check much?

Only two things cause inner wear like that. Excessive camber, and excessive camber coupled with toe.

Both will eat your tires up, the more aggressive your camber, the hotter the pavement and softer the tire, the faster it will happen. Pretty basic, and since you shouldnt have any toe at all in the rear, odds are it's your camber.

PS: Did they align the car with you sitting inside of it? Not accounting for your mass inside the car can cause significant (1-2 degree) camber difference on an already lowered car due to the suspension arc at that ride height. (Amount varies of course depending on spring setup and how fat, or unfat you are)

you know, i read that also about people in car , especially with indepent susp..makes me wonder, as i usuallly travel with another person and stuff...so actual 400lbs plus would actually be in car, but don,t know with coilovers riding stiff would allow much diff in camber...so does rear alignment need weight in coilover dropped car, for accurate alignment???

Check the date on the tires. Make sure they haven't been sitting on the shelf forever. Old tires will wear really odd some times.

Mike,

Thanks for the props. At Pedders we take care of our own. That just happens to include the Camaro5 community and all the members no matter what brand suspension they choose to use. We are ALL Camaro5 members, right?

Pedders are top notch,I would recheck that alignment, it would not suprise me to see one of the rear adusters slipped. They must be tight,it happens from time to time with cars that use cams to make the adjustments.

both tires are worn exactly same way...so it is identical for both sides...they are finishing up 9inch rear today, just left and they were massaging exhaust steel to work around pumpkin...no clearance..then wheels go back on and i will post results...
