Texting & Driving = Disaster

It happened to us. Our car was 1 year old this week, with 1100 miles on it. It did not come out of the garage if there was a cloud in the sky, or water in the gutter from the sprinklers. You all know the deal, the bottom was as clean as the top. Even though it only had 1100 miles on it, I took it to the dealer for a oil change and recall on the top.
My daughter (14 years old and already a car freak) and I picked it up to go home. Turned right out of the dealer and stopped at a red light.
Hold on, here it comes...... a big commercial truck comes barreling up on us, driver texting, and slams into us.
At first, I don't recall what happened. When I came to my senses, my first thought was my Daughter! I thought she was seriously hurt, but she was in shock like me. Several minutes may have transpired because people were gathered around our car, checking to see if we are injured.
I wish I could thank those people now.
It is all a blur now.... Fire Dept, Police, EMT......
The end of the story. We are ok, banged up and bruised, we will suvive.
Our baby? Not so good. I know people want pictures, but I can't bring myself to even look at the car again. It's dead and gone.
I know this is like preaching to the choir. Mostly, we are like minded people, that's what draws us to the Camaro and this site. I would never endanger some else's life by texting on my frigging phone, as I know you would not either. Maybe someone will take this incident to heart, and save anothers life.
Special note to Fbodfather.... When can I order a ZL1 convertible?

Take care everyone.

Sorry to hear about this.

On the bright side, you may be due some compensation by the idiot truck driver or his company. Maybe enough to help get that ZL1?

Kill it, kill it with fire.

Everything will be alright, and remember that things happen for a reason and there is always a positive to take from this.
Take care.

The driver of the truck should probably get jail time. As a volunteer fire fighter, I have had it drilled into my head that if I injure or kill someone in an accident by breaking a traffic regulation (like going through a red light when I am running lights and sirens), I am likely to face legal action. That is line of duty. The commercial driver texting behind the wheel is surely guilty of gross negligence.

Happened to me too. On day 6 of ownership. This is my 2nd Rally Yellow 2SS/RS 'vert. It really sucks but Scott will tell you -- we build em safe and a car can be replaced much easier than a person. Glad everyone is going to be ok, and very sorry about your car!

Teenager texting behind the wheel hit me HARD when I slowed to turn right into a parking lot. He never looked up. Four of us in the car and thankfully no injuries.
