Cam specs for N/A 418?

Parts ordered and (hopefully) shipped for 418 build (TSP LS3 4.080 block and forged Callies/Comp star rotating assembly). Heads will be CNC ported to match a Fast 102 and Nick W 102 TB. Cam spec being considered is 235/250 .642/.642 114 lsa. This was based off a build producing 626 rwhp @ 6400 / 583 Tq @ 5300. There's a lot of knowledgeable folks on here...any recommendation? Cam specs?

That's a massive cam. You might want to run your G6X3. At least at first.

In all honesty I'm very gun shy about touching the G6X3 cam again. After 2 engines failures with it i'm not comfortable going that route again. I admit the failures could be attributed to builder/installer issues but i'm leery.

With the extra cubes your new build will have, that cam should feel a lot like the G6X3 did in the LS3. Is that cam what TSP is recommending?

The cam specs come from a build write up on LME's 418 producing the numbers posted.

Those are impressive numbers. What compression ratio are you going with? I'm sure some of the experts will chime in soon. I can tell you I too broke a LS3 with a G6X3, and when you get your stroked engine you are going to be so much happier with the low end torque you will wish you swapped earlier.

Planning on 11.7:1 CR. Hope to dial in A/F at 12.6:1.

Your short block plan is very good. With that cam I would say make sure you have a similar plan for your lifters, valve springs, pushrods, rockers, and valve train geometry and you should end up with a killer engine.

Lifters will be LS7 (yes...same darn thing as LS3...) unless builder thinks going to something more stout would be in order, however the LME build specs used LS7s to no ill effect. Dual springs...though need to make sure they'll support 170 lbs seat pressure and 430 lbs of open pressure...and getting trunion upgrade to be smart.

I say go with this cam
http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/c...csid=1415&sb=0

My dumb azz should of done it! I kick my self in the azz I ended up with the one in my sig.
On a dynojet I would of been close to 600hp thru a heavy 4.11 geared 9" and a spool and driveshaft. My stroker sucked that cam right up!

As far a springs, get the Brian Tooley platinum springs, if you want to keep the lifter trays (which I'd advise not to) get the BTR SLR lifters which is an ipgrade to the GM Ls7 lifters if not then get some linkbar lifters like morel or lunati they are the same ones and avoid a lifter turning on you. I'd also recommend a set of BTR 3/8 pushrods which are thicker and not at all more expensive than the 5/16 ones. NOTE since the heads are off they will need just a bit of clearancing and most porters do this anyways but let then know you'll be running them.

Just my .2

430 is ALOT of open pressure, that's why I decided to go linkbar lifters. And I have nothing to worry about.

Ok researching linkbar lifters...and reviewing the linked cam specs, excellent suggestions!
