Is there a general rule as to how long to let each coat of paint/clear coat dry before wet sanding?

It was originally intended for the steering wheel and I tried forever to get it to stick, but in the Phoenix heat an edge would always raise up on a really hot day. Soo.... I recycled it. |

Depends on the type paint. If it is a canned spray paint it usually has drying and sanding time listed on the can. It also depend slot on temperature and humidity. So in other words no I don't think there is a general rule of thumb.

Thanks Skyman. I'm using a spray paint but it only lists the time you should wait between coats and before applying a clear coat. It doesn't mention sanding or drying time at all.

I would probably wait 48 hours in that case... But that is just me...

One more question. If I'm only painting part of the engine cover, do I still clear coat the entire thing? Or do I clear coat first and then unmask? My concern is that the clear coat won't adhere to the part that was masked off because it was never hit with the adhesion promoter.

Here is a picture of the badge, you can also get him to use two different colors, one for the 312 and one for the HP. I chose white and red. The colored parts are plastic surrounded by polished stainless steel. PS he says he can custom make about any badge you would want. just let him know what you want it to say.

One more question re painting the cover. Do you let the paint and clear coat dry completely before removing the masking tape? Or should it be removed while the paint/clear coat is still wet?
