When to start changing belts?

My Camaro is at 12k miles now and I feel like it's making a weird noise from under the hood that has to do with the belts, but I'm not sure. It's sorta like a clicking noise, I don't know how to explain it at all.

I do need my oil changed as it's at 24% and I'm going in to get my 12,500 service done next week, but I wanted to hear what you guys have to say?

Tell them your issue and have them check your belt tension while they're doing the service (may be part of it anyway).

My guess is that the noise you hear is not the belt and if so the belt just needs an idler adjustment. The belt is supposed to be good for a 100K miles.

the clicking noise you are hearing, is most likely the VVT (variable valve timing), and is very noticeable in tunnels, drive-thrus, and anything that the noise can bounce off.

I can hear it more at idle, rather than driving or when going slower, it's very weird.

The high pressure fuel pump at the left rear of the engine makes a very audible clicking/chirping noise as it is generating hundreds of pounds of fuel pressure for the direct injection system.

The belt should be good for a long time. Also i'm not aware of any 12,500 mile maintenance?

That clicking noise is very normal. Remember not all camaros are the same, some our louder than others. I thought ti was a lifter noise when I first bought the car as well but if you do a quick search through the threads you'll see for yourself

You can use silicone spray to keep the belts quiet and lengthen their life.

The direct injection on these 6's makes for audible ticking at idle and slow speeds. If it's running fine, don't stress out. Ask if everything sounds normal when you take it in for service.
