Hey Blazzin1, thanks for posting the pic ...you know what they say a pic is worth. Can you let me know what was in the box besides the gear ring & pinion ?
Thanks again.

you get the ring, pinion, crush sleeve, pinion bolt, and ring bolts. Has anyone needed shims with this kit? You will need a new GM pinion seal and maybe a inner pinion bearing as the cage tends to get stretched when its pressed off.

Chase,
Once again you've been able to provide accuarate & reliable info... thank you!!!

If you look you'll see that the chevy performance catalogue
//www.chevrolet.com/performance...3/issue07.html
has p/n 22756880 listed twice, once as the 1LE 3.91 gear kit
(along with p/n 19301504 as the complete 3.91 Performance Gear Kit ) again as the Strut Tower Brace, plus the catalogue doesn't show
p/n 22813040 !

What a GM FUBAR Glad we have you to reply on!

So all you need to add is the pinion seal and inner bearing to the $289 gear package?

+1.

I've had people tell me I need a $500 kit from richmond in addition to the gears to install this. I find that very odd considering, when you buy the brake kit from Chevy, it comes with everything, including stuff that's really easy to source from other places, like rotors and pads.

Seems odd. May ask my dealership about this.

tell me if i am wrong but isn't easy to just buy the 1le rear differential? (3.91 gears)
I would think it would be a lot easier to switch out a differential that even a novice could possible do by himself. I mean i hear that for the install and parts for just buying the 3.91 gears it comes up as the same cost of buying a whole new differential so why get just the gears

I'm pretty sure I can't do that 954camaro. Because I have a 2LT instead of an SS, I'd have to replace my driveshaft, or shorten my existing one somehow. I'd also have to replace my axels.

I don't have the same pumpkin that the SS does, but the 3.91 gears will still fit in my existing one. That's why I would look at it.

You may be right even so. Might not cost me all that much more to get a 1LE takeoff differential and spend $1500 on axels and driveshafts.

+2 hehe. Usually we need for a gear swap: Gear; pinion gasket; shims; pinion bearing (crush sleeve); lube. I know someone I can ask BRB.

Just to make sure. The 3.91 gears will fit in the LS1 M6 right? For a car that is driven daily for mostly around town use can anyone think of any real negatives to doing this? Is the adjustment to the speedo available for the V6 yet?

The GM kit is all you need unless you have leaking axle seals that you want to replace at the same time. Otherwise the couple we have done we just use the 1LE kit from GM and it has all the parts needed.

... when you say LS1, you mean an older generation V8 pushrod engine.

When you say 1LS, you mean the base model Camaro. I'm assuming you're talking about the second.

I've been assured that the 3.91 gears will fit in the V6 manual differential.

Actually... I think I've heard people saying the V6 manual differential is the same as the SS differential... If that's true. I may just buy an SS differential straight up and drop it in there.

I was talking about the 1LS. Thanks. At least I said V6 instead of 6V. Only 6 valves would make this car run like crap.
