For RC watch this video and more importantly read comments here

Here are the inexpensive components to make this work perfect:

Racechrono Pro @$19.99 on play store

android phone which will provide data/video and realtime predictive timing display
http://goo.gl/OmlCn3
get a used 3rd gen Motorola Moto G @$100 for ebay. This will record video to the SD card also.

garmin glo for gps @$100
this will provide 10hz gps which is better than the phones 1hz
http://goo.gl/vaMdxc

for OBD2
obdlink @$50
http://goo.gl/UDNJ0o
the will get many more parameters including rpm

ram suction mount @$50
http://goo.gl/1Prtcy
if you are using your hero for video you do not need this or you could record 2 cameras

and the real power of this (Harry's does it too) is the export of .vbo files in to Race Logic's Citcuit Tools for more detailed analysis.
Thanks for the recommendation for the for OBD2! Lots of options out there, good to see one vetted.

Currently having fits with Harrys laptimer. Cant seem to get video from GoPro together with track data saved in Harrys laptimer. I emailed Harry and he sends me a link to his online manual.
Ummmmmmmm thanks bro! I didn't already do that before emailing you!

So...does anyone have a recommendation for an iPhone supported OBD-II wireless scanner?
I really want to get accurate lap times, as well as awesome data like RPM, gearing, and true MPH
Advice appreciated!

Did you check Harry's youtube vids, I found them helpful when I set mine up this week. Didn't set up the sync with my Gopro yet, just used the video from my phone.

GoPoint Technology BT1 is wireless and I use it with my TrackAddict Pro app by HP Tuners on my iPhone5s. I used Amazon for the GoPoint purchase and downloaded the TrackAddict app from the App Store.

How much better is it to have the external GPS.
Is it a noticeable difference?

if you mount it inside the back window it will be fine...no advantage to external...especially if you have the russian sats too....aka...glonass. Most systems can give good data with 8 sats locked. I use the only "ferrari approved" gaffer's tape http://goo.gl/nZwCPp to hold it on the back ledge as close to the glass as possible without touching it and centered.
