I hate to say it but you will most likely be miserable if you are like me. I drove my car from Atlanta to Richmond, VA when the car was brand new (450 miles) and it was a difficult drive. Any road imperfections start to get annoying and bridge approach joints and uneven pavement will drive you crazy. If you are on Michelin, Bridgestones, or whatever tire that is more appropriate than the Trofeos; you may be o.k. I would do this trip all day long in a ZL1 for comparison.

With that Z/28 suspension you're gonna feel every bit of them rough roads.

If health isn't too much of a concern, then definitely use some of that blue painter's tape and tape the heck out of your front end to minimize scratching.

I drove from San Antonio, TX to Orange County, CA in my SS... very easy trip, the tape definitely helped the front end out, I had no bugs or scuffs after it was all said and done.

The Z28 is what it is, a beast on the track. It isn't a good grand tour car, unless you enjoy a really rough ride and like feeling every bump and joint in the road, and like having the back of your head slapped by the seat.

The trofeo's are also miserable on the road. They track all over the road, left and right, never straight, never giving the driver a minute to relax. I put MPSS on mine and they are way better but still not a relaxing car to drive. I wouldn't change it because I didn't buy it to tour in it.

If I was going for a 3,000 mile drive I'd take my wife's 2015 Avalon. Heated and cooled seats, quiet and comfortable. No fun at the track.

I drove around Lake Michigan no problems.
IMO this is the greatest touring car ever.

If it were mostly highway and some city driving on decent roads I'd say go for it. If you'll be driving regularly on crappy roads it will be an ass whipping. I drive mine a lot and some days I decide to take my other car because I do not want to deal with the rough ride.

Trailer it. No need to deal the possibility of a flat tire(s).

Also, my kids complain the rear seat is hard as a rock compared to the ZL1 which has more seat padding.

I trailered mine to Las Vegas from San Bernardino, Unloaded it and Drove it from Las Vegas to Ely, Nevada 244 miles each way on the old highways 93 & 318, Bumpy old and Rough.
it was a lot of fun to run the Z/28 out there. Air Conditioning on, XM Radio on and Driving Fast. Going again in September.

2,634 miles in 7.5 days. On Trofeos and we got caught in two torrential downpours w no problems. Highways to back roads. Was an absolute blast and an unforgettable experience. Front splitters are cheap (in the grand scheme) compared to the once in a lifetime memories. Your kid will be talking about it 20 years from now. $50 portable DVD players are everywhere. My $0.02 worth.

I drove mine from Houston to Destin for vacation. Destin to Bowling Green for CamaroFest and running at NCM track. Bowling Green back to Houston. Left the Trofeos at home and drove on MPSS. Worked out as it rained quite a bit at NCM. Wife was in the car from Houston to Destin. Almost all highway miles and no issues. Except you get asked a lot of questions every time you stop for gas!

I put bridgestones on the day I bought it for street duty. Back in feb I drove 700 miles out to the midwest and then 700 back a week later...even got caught in the snow...that was a chore. LOVED IT!!!

Anyone who says you can't do this is a sissy!!!

I have not completed a trip to date in the Z/28 but wife wants to and we will but I do feel a 3000 mile trip is asking a whole lot. I'd suggest its not apples to apples to compare a 500 mile trip to a 3000 mile one. Applaud anyone who has, or is contemplating.
