Chevy Equinox opinions

Hello
I searched and found a thread that was a couple years old on this subject. So I thought it would be ok to ask this question again.

My wife is wanting to get a new Chevy Equinox. Do any of you C5 members have an opinion of how good or bad an Equinox is? I do believe that if we get one, it will be the V6 1LT with some decent options. We don't need a 2LT or an LTZ. Nor do we need the AWD. I know the 4 cylinder gets better mpg, but I would rather have a little more power. Im not concerned about mpg. So if anyone has an Equinox or knows someone who does have one, and has an opinion about the dependability, reliability, overall quality, or any problems with them. Please post your thoughts. Thank You in advance. GMTool

My in-laws have a loaded awd slt terrain. (Pretty much same thing)

They absolutely love it, and have no issues or complaints.

Me and the wife just went out this week and looked into a Terrain, Equinox and a Kia Sorento.

honestly I liked them all but the Kia ended up winning. A fully loaded Kia with absolutely every option you can think of was $36K were as a base Equinox was starting around that price for a base model. If it wasnt for all the options and the 10 year 100,000 miles warranty Kia offered i would have gotten the Equinox.

I think you are remembering a Traverse. The Equinox starts at $24,155. Fully loaded it is $37,000 (if you leave off the $3,700 dealer wheel and Tire Package). Hyundai/Kia warranty is nice if you plan on keep it a long time. GM does have the 5 year 100,000 mile powertrain warranty though.

The Equinox in 4 cylinder trim is adequate. The best I ever saw was 28 or 29 MPG, however, with my driving style. The V6 will certainly do well but the 3.6 in other applications might get you 23, IF you drive like I do.

The Equinox has a very roomy rear seat. If you carry more than 2, this is a big plus. The rear seat is adjustable for/aft.

Generally quiet and comfortable from my time with them.

Get the V6, Pioneer uplevel radio, and fog lights (if it doesn't have the HIDs.

The fogs really help at night, the base headlights suck. Base radio sucks, the Pioneer rocks.

I had a 4 cyl 2011 2LT. It was good for mpgs, but needs more grunt to pull any decent loads. I had a small utility trailer, less than the 1500 lb rating and it really struggled to pull it. Mine was starting to burn oil, dealer said they are replacing tons of 4 cyls for oil burning. VVT and DI not all that what it is cracked up to be when they turn into oil burners. I'd try the V6 next time if I did it over again, but for now I went back to a full size truck to DD. The last day I owned mine ,it was stalling like crazy. Had to restart it about 10 times on the way home from work. Dealer said there is a bulletin for some actuators or something in the cam VVT system.

As far as the Equinox goes several people i know who own them love it. The Cami plant that makes them can't keep up with there orders. They had to go to a third shift. Before buying there are a couple of other models i recommend you look at. The 2013 Santa Fe,2013 RAV4,2013 Ford escape and the Dodge journey R/T. I have test driven most of them on that list so that's what my opinion is based on. If it was my money its the the new Santa Fe.

We love our 2010. By the way we have the 10 year GM warranty. I think it's so stupid that GM dropped the 10 and went back to 5.

We've had zero problems with our Equinox.

With the V6, uplevel radio, and fogs or HIDs.... you will really like it.

There is some very expensive top packages that make for a real expensive MSRP. But if you just add the key features you need, while avoiding the top package, the MSRP stays pretty reasonable.
