Negatives of a ported throttle body
What are the possible negatives of a ported throttle body, does it affect mpgs, and is there any potential for causing any issues, like CEL's or anything like that?

No complaints as of yet of those kinds that I can recall.

Only problem is if the porter messes it up and your car idles funny as a result.

I guess if a do-it-yourselfer tries it they could screw it up, but a professionally one done on a computerized C&C machine has had a lot of testing done and as far as I know none have caused any car to be worse that the stock throttle body.

There is nothing to worry about with the VMAX CNC ported throttle bodies. Each one is ported to the same specs to insure consistent gains from one to the next. Please feel free to call, PM or email me anytime with questions.

I wouldn't call it a negative however, i can say for a fact that my car did not run well after installing mine. Plenty of bucking, surging and dog slow response. This was in combination with the CAI Inc i already had. It turned out that i had a factory weak MAF sensor that worked just fine until i bolted up the Vmax.. Apex sent me out a strong one overnight. Popped it in and issues went away.
I know some will roll their eyes but, i'm no novice at this and it happened. I tried everything from relearn to MAF cleaning including putting my stock TB back on and it drove fine. The old MAF i still have and tested it in another stock car and it works fine. After replacing MAF i have had zero issues since. Not something common. Probably very rare but, yeah you COULD have an issue. Luckily it was easily remedied. |
