I thought about that but I'm concerned if any blockage is being caused by it. The soot build up on my tailpipes doesn't appear to be happening on this one...

All they did was replace mine, a month after they replaced, I noticed it happening again. Have not taken it in again as it does not seem to cause any problems (as far as datalog info reads).
This is what I was afraid of.

Yup, yanked it out and the remnants burned out and it hasn't recurred. I told my GM service manager about it and she said just bring it in and they would replace it. So far it hasn't recurred.

Recurrence, how could it, you yanked it all out and there's probably nothing left inside. Is it louder? What is the purpose of this steel wool looking stuff? Noise suppression? I could use some for my husband. OMG he's gotta stop eating so much Mexican food, its too noisy if you know what I mean. Do they make a muffler for that?

No louder, the small amount I pulled out couldn't have much effect.

Same happened with mine, I just cut it off. Hopefully they come out with a TSB soon with a real fix.

Hello joes407,

If you would like, I can look into your situation as well seeing as though you have no modifications, I can investigate further. If you could, please private message me your name, VIN# and current mileage. Also, please send me your involved dealer's information.
