Daaaaaa What? My degree is in marketing....so I'm an easy sell.

Is RP good or do I need to add something to it?
Mobil 1, Amsoil, Castrol Syntec ?????
Found RP for $93.99/cs
Amsoil about $108/cs + shipping, but that website is confusing as H*ll.
Mobil 1 is 77.76/cs delivered on Amazon (cool looking bottle, that scares me).
Castrol Syntec is 95.76/cs delivered from Amazon.
Could someone please slap me and pick one!
I was leaning towards RP, but think I read in thread that it squeezes out too easily......really.
I just want to drive my Camaro forever
Anyone else confused more now?
Somebody STOP me

Just went back and looked, HollywoodJose who started this thread had bought a lifetime of oilchanges from dealer................

Hey i know, heh I wont be doing it again, i just thought it would be easier since i am in town for school throughout the year that when I needed it I could take it to them and have em do it. But... i know i can do it myself too and when/if I trade in the car on a newer one in a few years I will not get the oilchange for life

I use Amsoil in all my vehicles and it has treated me well. So well in fact that I became a dealer of it. I would suggest Amsoil not just b/c I am a dealer but b/c of the benefits. It is simply the best synthetic out there. Our top of the line 0w30 is what I use. I live in Oklahoma so don't see alot of extreme temps. I would suggest becoming a preferred customer and you will get the products at wholesale price. Check out my website!

What are you basing this fact on? Are you an chemical engineer? If you used Pennzoil, Quaker State or Mobil 1 would you know any different?

The fact is that Amsoil is FAR FAR FAR from the best synthetic out there. Royal Purple beats it like a red headed stepchild and the only oils better* than RP are Q HorsePower and Mobil 1.

*I understand this term is very subjective but going off data I've seen from tests done by guys that have gone to school for longer than I, this is the conclusion drawn by them.

Ok, so it's settled.

I'm going with the Texaco Star brand..............because you can trust your car to the man who wears the Star, the big bright Texaco Starrrrrrr.

Does any free soap come with the Amsoil??? I need to do laundry.

Thanks for the focus.

Researching four or five brands is better than wading through the whole ocean of what's available!

I've used Royal Purple for years and I don't care what anybody says (usually it's only Amsoil distributers that badmouth it); it's fantastic stuff. The first time I used it in my transmission I was of course expecting it to shift smoother which it did, what I was NOT expecting was how much quieter the trans would be! It definitely lowers friction, makes things run smoother and quieter. Less friction means less heat and more efficiency. Those things equal less wear and tear, and longer component life.

Amazon sells a case of 12 bottles of 5w30 for about $82 which makes it a real bargain. I'll be using that at the 1500 mile mark and have 4 bottles left over (the Camaro LS3 uses 8 qts) so one more case after that will give me 16 bottles and be enough for 2 more oil changes.

I invite you all to go and do some research on your own.
http://www.amsoil.com/performancetests.aspx
https://www.amsoil.com/lit/databulletins/g2569.pdf
http://www.amsoil.com/comparison/volatility-test.pdf
http://www.amsoil.com/comparison/motor-oil-3f-test.aspx

I use the oil in all my vehicles and have experienced cooler running temps, better fuel mileage, and save money by having extended drain intervals. The vehicles I use it in our:
1987 Chevrolet Silverado V-8
1989 Chevrolet Camaro V-8
2006 Chevrolet Silverado V-8
2007 Saturn Aura V-6
2010 Chevrolet Camaro 2SS

Don't get me wrong RP and Mobil 1 are some of the better oils on the market but on the research and uses I have seen personally Amsoil is better. I work in the offshore industry and we have just recently switched to a RP hydraulic oil RP 22 from Shell Tellus 22 and have been experiencing all kinds of problems with our equipment. I know that is not related to the motor oil topic but just the most recent adding to the reasons I do not like/use RP.

No Amsoil does not come with soap, it is not Amway!
The Amsoil name comes from its developer AJ Amatuzio.
This is not a response to push the oil b/c I deal it. I could care less about that I am just trying to help fellow camaro enthusiasts with a good reliable oil that will benefit them and help protect their investment.

The more I read this thread the more torn I get. Since synthetic lasts longer, and I won't be driving my car in the winter, I will only be changing the oil once. That being said, I want that one time to be the best oil. I can't decide

I know nothing about Amsoil, never used it. I just find it odd that only Amsoil distributers seem to have problems with Royal Purple. Mazda users and racers have been using it faithfully for years with rave reviews; I've used it for years with great results; anybody I know who's used it loves it and swears by it. But somehow for some odd reason Amsoil distributers have nothing but horror stories concerning it. Strange. And they always post links about those horror stories as proof of "research" which oddly are links to other Amsoil distributer pages. Just seems kind of odd, you know?

Well...being the "living on the edge" kind of guy I am, I'll stick with Royal Purple. The only exception is in the trans and differential since they seem to be basically lifetime sealed units from the factory although I'm going to do some research there too. I know switching to RP gear oil in the trans and diff on my Mazda RX8 was an amazing difference. I'll have to look into whether that will make a difference in the Camaro trans and diff or not.

I have no problems with RP and am not knocking it at all. It is one of the better oils to use. I am just saying that based on tests and research Amsoil is better. If you would have put Amsoil in instead, when you made the switch to RP you would have seen results too and probably even better. The links I posted are straight to Amsoils site where they have the true test results not horror stories. They are comparisons, tests, and results among several leading brands of oil. Just trying to give some avenues for people to be able to do their research and come to a decision on what is best for them. I personally like Amsoil. RP is good I have used it in the past just have gotten better results with Amsoil.

Does anyone have a link for GM approved oil filters?

After changing my mind 500 times over the last 2 weeks I have decided to get my oil changed by the dealer for warranty reasons. I called this morning to set up the appointment and the lady on the phone was very rude when I asked what oil they were going to be putting in my car and what filter they would be using. Makes me want to change my mind again.

Anyways she told me they use the $5 Ac Delco filter that comes on the car. I told her I would be bringing my own K&N or Mobil 1 filter with me, and the damn lady was so clueless she told me K&N didn't make oil filters

She also told me that she thinks if anything were to happen to the car that using anything other than AC Delco will void my warranty. WHAT! So that is why I am looking for a list approved by GM for oil filters. I know there is a link in this thread for approved oil, but it doesn't list acceptable filters.

Help! I need to make sure I am not voiding my warranty by 4pm tonight.
