Kooks with L99

Looking for advice from anyone who has this setup or is knowledgeable on the topic..

I am looking to pick up the 1 7/8" Kooks LTs and cold air inductions CAI in the next few weeks...

My question is should I spend the extra money for the X or H pipe? The reason I ask is the mid pipe (for the L99 only) seems a lil restrictive. Would the addition of LTs cause heat issues or be too restrictive for that modification? Someone look showed what the midpipe looks like when cracked open and wow...it seems like it would completely defeat the purpose lol.

I noticed a couple of C5 venders are offering the borla S type catback WITH the Kooks LTs at a sale package price....seems like a great deal. Anyone with this setup know how loud it is? I love the S type tone.

brantley847, I have the Kooks LT jet-hot coated headers with Vararam CAI and a tune and my car runs very strong and sounds great.

If you are going to do long tubes do the X-Pipe center section. The L99 has a resonator in the center section that can be restrictive, get rid of that and do the x-pipe. Kooks has a complete system from header to the exhaust tips that we installed on an L99 Camaro and it sounds really nice. This system has an awesome muscle car rumble.
Combined with a cold air intake this is a very good place to start your upgrades.

I have to mention the AFM/DOD. You will be getting some pretty annoying sounds if you don't get your L99 tuned to delete AFM. The L99 makes very unmuscle car like (a drone - civic with a fart pipe type) sound when the AFM transfers over to V4 mode. Some guys can deal with it, but I couldn't stand it before I got my car tuned.

I have the Corsa cat-back system and just bought the coated Kooks LT's to put on my car.

Corsa has resonator pipes in place of large stock resonator, no x-pipe.

Just went to center exit exhaust which eliminated the mufflers. Louder, but sounds good, still no drone on Fwy.

Will let you know once the kooks & high flow cats are in around the end of the year.

I think it's gunna get loud! Oh yeah, forgot to mention I have a Vortech pushin air into the system!

I had my AFM/DOD turned off in my tune for that reason.

On my wifes car, we have high flow cats (sounds pretty much same as headers), and the Kooks Street Sleeper 2.5" catback. It sounds awesome and has zero drone..even with the AFM on.

We have a sale pisted in the sponser section for these.

Think the stock L99 center muffler creates some friction and restriction?

Yea that goes without saying...I have a guy I have been talking to who will do the kooks, CAI, and dyno tune for a sale price if he does the install as a package. I will probably be buying the products from a C5 vendor and have my guy do the install......that will be the day AFM is gone. Thanks for all the help and replies..

I will pick up the high flow cats as well...

Does anyone run these headers (or any header for that matter) with the L99 stock mid pipe and mufflers? If so, how does that sound?

The only ones that would bolt up would be shorties. BBK, Doug Thorley, etc.

As far as HP goes, I doubt there's much difference in a X pipe over the OEM resonator/H pipe setup. There is a significant weight gain though. I'm thinking the resonator section is around 18lbs. I have the magnaflow crossover Xpipe and it can't be more than a pound.
