I just use my Scorpion Exo-400 Full-Face Motorycycle Helmet that I got from my local Yamaha dealer for about $130. SNELL and DOT approved. http://www.newenough.com/helmets_eye...ypes/scorpion/

The helmet you use may have to meet different specifications depending on the track you are running and the time bracket you are in.

Snell helmets are a little pricier than regular DOT spec ones. I would check with the track you are going to be running and get something that complies.

When it comes to helmets, I would not recommend going cheap. Less than one month ago I was on a road course as a passenger in a NASA prepped Z-06. We were hitting around 160 MPH on the straightaway prior to the braking zone. We had just started turn-in for turn 1 at around 90 when the left front hub carrier snapped off. Needless to say we headed off track in a big hurry. The wheel hung on by the caliper and rotor as we came to a rest around 20 feet from the retaining berm. We were lucky, but that was a close call. I was thankful for the safety gear we had and that we didn't need it that time. Things happen very quickly at triple digit speeds.

Lots of people buy a helmet to meet the minimum safety requirement. It is up to you to determine if your head is worth more $$ than that.

Sorry, I didn't see that you had SFI approved in your original post.

Just trying to help. It's your head, after all.

I want to get a helmet like that for just that reason. Will an open face helmet work for my purposes? Sure. But to be the Stig...

If its something your going to be doing alot i would buy a Simpson. Its the best. If just a few times get a cheap motorcycle helmet from any local motorcycle shop. But word to the wise. Ive been in drag racing since i was 16 and basically you should always buy for growth. What i mean buy this if you buy something cheap and you decide later down the road to make this car a 10 second car a few years from now youll just have to upgrade. So it has been my experience with all parts to buy a better product-overkill-if you will that way if your future holds a more serious approach to racing you spent your money and spent it well without having to respend again. Good luck.

More and more tracks are checking and will not allow a motorcycle helmet...
