that is really cool that they are adding that, but why encourage it then say it will void your warranty.
I know why they are saying it will, but come on Ford |

It's really cool that they're adding it...but I could very easily see someone getting screwed out of their warranty by Ford saying "You used the line-lock...we can't cover that." Kinda like the GT-R launch control warranty issue a few years back

Guess you just have to hope you have a good dealer. my dealer was really cool when I had my mustang, they knew I raced it and modified it but still did all the warranty work no problem. |

I think you are going to see insurance rates on new Mustangs go up a tad with everyone doing Earnhardt burnouts and slamming into walls.....
Regardless, I wish this was on my Camaro.

I think its pretty cool, but at the same time I could care less whether or not I had it.
Perfect for the 1/4 mile guys though. I can see this feature getting some owners into a little trouble...or perhaps burning through their tires ($$$) much quicker than their wallet wanted them to.

So I bet the computer has a counter to how many times the line lock is used so even if you used it once your warranty is gone even though something might have happened later on after that.

and if so, how many people are going to buy a new stang with its warranty already voided because some idiot at the dealer was playing with the new line-lock feature.

It should be a deletable option.

Hopefully they thought of that and you can program in a PIN number to deactivate it.

" It's a wonder that no one has come up with a feature that makes it easier to spin your tires in place before Ford's new electronic line-lock for the 2015 Mustang GT. The feature, which will be standard on all new Mustang GTs, locks the front brakes once engaged, allowing for easy, smoky burnouts. The feature was developed to make it easier for drag racers to warm up their tires in the burnout box. The electronic system uses the hydraulic control unit of the stability control system to hold the front brakes while releasing the rears -- all without having to apply the brake pedal. Once the brakes are locked, the driver can do a quick burnout to warm up the tires, or reduce them to a cloud of smoke to the delight of friends and neighbors. The standard electronic line-lock feature eliminates the need to install a mechanical line-lock, which requires modifications to the brakes. "Mustang offers selectable drive modes for those who prefer to compete on road courses or in autocross events," said Mustang chief engineer Dave Pericak in a release. "So when we realized we could provide a really cool feature like electronic line-lock that no-one else offers, the decision was easy -- 'let's do it!'" Ford says the electronic line-lock feature is intended for track use only, and sadly, that "racing your vehicle will void your warranty."" Interpret it any way you want but I wouldn't be surprised if they say if you used it you were racing.

This is really going to screw with used sales. People will be promised warranties after first year buyers push the "void" button. Just having a feature on a car makes it liable to be used, and Ford should accept that responsibility.
Sure, line lock assumes that the car is being tracked, but pushing a button included on a car is to be expected of every car owner.

I'm sure there will be a "valet key" that will not allow valets or service providers to utilize this feature.
