harness bar for shoulder belts?

I'm not doing a full cage and want to run 5 points. I have seen bolt in bars in bmw and pcars like this http://tinyurl.com/ovtkg5n I would think someone has made one of these for a camaro using factory mount points?

any info appreciated...

I guess I'm kind of answering my own question as I found this http://www.bkauto.com/category_s/285.htm

but I want use of the back seats and only want a cross bar like the one in the previous post for the 911. Has anyone seen a bar with 5 points...not cage???

Try www.speedwaremotorsports.com and see if they have what you want. Do a search on camaro5 for "tank plate" and there is a guy (cornerspeed92) who has a bar with more detailed pics. Good luck!

I'm assuming this is for tracking purposes?

I would always advise a roll bar as opposed to a harness bar, **** happens on track that you may or may not have control over, and a roll bar with give you that added protection that a harness bar will not.

In either case, it's all dependent on whether or not you pick up the proper equipment and if it's properly installed and the belts have the correct angles.

You will also want a HANS, it's all or nothing really. If you use the belts, get a HANS. And your helmet will need the HANS posts.

You should be able to retain your stock belts and keep your harnesses as well, so you can use your stock belts on the road and the harness on the track.

yes for track.

I have had full scca cages in 2 street/track cars but not this one…primarily because it has a back seat i will use for hauling kids.

well aware about angle of belts hence the harness bar. You would be stunned at how many people (especially bmws) arrive at the track with shoulder belts going down to rear seat level.

14 years with hans

on "special runs" I do use 5 points on the street

How about the Cipher harness bar? It's cheap, and that might not be good. I can't find any reviews that don't seem to be written by someone from Cipher posing as a customer. http://www.cipherauto.com/Harness-Ba...ng-Harness-Bar

Won't you need a seat mod to run 5-points? 6-points will work fine however.

I personally like the Schroth 4-point Rallye 3 harness which have ASM (anti-submarining) built into them. They hold you in like a 5-point harness and during a crash one shoulder releases to act like a 3-point harness which keeps your gut from squeezing and causing internal bleeding that a standard 4-pint harness will cause and lets your head roll out of the way as well. They are also DOT legal so you can use them everywhere if you wanted to.

In addition you can get a pair for under $400 which is at least 2/3 the cost of a 5/6 point harnesses and harness bar depending on the level of stuff you get.

What?? Where do you find $800 race harnesses? That is a complete rip off. $400 would get you a top of the line FIA approved harness. $300-$400 is about the right price for a proper race harness.

I was editing my post as you typed. I meant to say 2/3 or $600 minimum for a harness bar setup.

The Cipher bar is only about $230. Althought the BKAuto bar looks to have better/more reinforcement.
I know that Tank plates, which allow you to run a 6 point harness (with the sub straps running through the seat are around $300 each.

I was wondering, the BKAuto Lap belt Mount kit is only $50, could you use that to mount the 6 point sub straps? What about mounting this piece sideways under the rear seat mount, similar to the mounting positions of a tank plate?

Hi toehead...thanks for the reply. i know many people swear by schroth but they did make a very wanker set up years ago that has always made me suspect of them. At a GVG BMW event at the glen in the early 90's...a guy crashed with some sort of schroth belt "system" and it worked for the first impact and did NOTHING for the 2nd hit...guys helmet hit the windshield. There was some idiotic reason for this and schroth fell from grace with that crowd. You mention "release" which does not sound good in the event of a violent crash. Now years later I guess we got old and the new crowd loves schroth...I'm still suspect. You do not see pro racers use anything that "changes" or any "active" belt system...just extememly tight 5 or 6 points....just my .02 and I know nothing of schroth quality now but this event did happen.

and a certain schroth dealer in new england continues to prep cars for the track with belts going down and using the rear seat belts...I complained about this as it would never pass any real tech and was told the seats are stronger now and not to worry...which is total BS...only a kirkey or a carbon fiber one piece race seat could you say that....my point is...there are people who knowingly prep cars dangerously for the track with simple easy and expensive mod kits....sorry to say.

I hate to admit I would rather pay more for this...$230 seems questionable but I do know a fab guy who could make this for under 500 in an afternoon....and his would be strong since he builds grand am cars.
