I live near Houston and the coldest it gets her is the occasional high 30's... So my camy will be a daily driver all year long when I get her. The only thing she will have to worry about is spring floods.

If you know absolutley how to drive in the snow and slick conditions and are incredibly careful you can drive "anything" with almost any tire in the colder months. But, just because you can doesn't mean you should...

That being said, any camaro with a good set of snow/ice tires and wheels on all four corners should be fine with the traction control in snow up to about 3-4 inches. Then it will get really hard to control. For the price of tires and wheels you might be able to find a very "basic" beater car to drive only a few weeks out of the year.

I had to drive my Cobalt in the Colorado winter for 4 seasons and I never bought snow tires. I ran 555 nittos and they were slick as hell in the snow but really good in the rain. I was just super careful when the snow was out and had the benefit of being a fwd and manual with lots of torque (to start in higher gear, etc.)

Im happy now that I can afford to garage my toy and buy a second car (sadly not a camaro). It really sucks having to daily drive your hobby/enthusiast car. Especially when it's modified and pretty much perfect before the winter, and by the end it's beat to hell and most of the mods were removed. lol

Good luck!

I'll be carpooling on days where there's ice and snow all over - I'll play the card:

"The Camaro is rear-wheel drive. I'd feel safer if you drove your X since it's all-wheel (or front wheel)."

Over and over and over until the snow clears!

^_^

Winter driving

Any other advice you have for winter driving i'm all ears.
Im origionaly from upstate NY and moved to western Michigan. Snow is snow where ever you go, and it is deffinatly not good for a new camaro. It kills me everytime I see a sporty car driving in the winter and then a few miles down the road I see them in a ditch. Trust me even with a RWD car with minimal power its difficult to keep it on the road with anything over an inch on the pavement.

I say pick up a $500 car for the winter and drive it into the ground.

Chicago here and I WILL be driving mine year round. Have driven rear wheel drive cars many times during the winter and they do not pose a big issue if you drive smart. I look at it this way, I have a 1/2hr dirve to and from work.
If it is snowing heavily during that time, it may be a rough ride home. The other 23hrs in the day should be ok. They tend to get the snow cleared pretty fast out here. Oh yea, I will be getting snow tire since the summer rubber would not work.

Alaska Camaro

I live in Wasilla, Alaska, and commute daily to Anchorage for work, about an hour's drive. I'm currently using Pirelli Scorpion winter tires sized for the RS package, and they work great so far. We've had snow for about a week now, and I'm having a lot of fun driving this car in winter. The electronics won't let the tail end kick out more than 10-15 degrees, ABS works great, and traction control is what you would expect. Obviously you can't give it full throttle from a stop, or traction control gets heavy handed. Deep snow on unplowed roads is harder to drive on than packed snow or ice, I would chalk that up to the tires. It's easy to forget how big and heavy this car is because it handles so well, but taking a corner too fast in deep snow will remind you! I actually drove this thing out of a ditch after sliding off the road, a first for me in a car, normally you have to wait for the tow truck. Funny thing is, more people have come up to stoplights trying to race me than they ever did in the summer. And I can honestly say that their assumption that the Camaro is handicapped on snow is wrong. If you have proper tires and are used to driving in snow, you'll be delighted with the Camaro's winter performance. Anyway, just my two cents. I'll be driving this car year round, whatever the weather, because I'm in love!

Extreme SE corner of OK, daily driver year round, and I don't plan on changing the tires unless I see a problem with them. There MIGHT be snow here two days a year, max.

Glad to know they ride well in the snow. I know snow/salt/ice/other drivers are not good for the car, but not driving the car for 5 months is not good for my mental health.
